So, I re-Tweeted the first link in this post (along with a bunch of other people), but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I should get this info out there so more people can pass it around because it needs to be discussed.
The topic? How everyone and their brother seems to think that artists and design professionals are plying their trade for fun (or something), and therefore don't actually know what they're doing and/or should be happy with being paid peanuts. Those of you in the industry know exactly what I mean. Those of you who don't should listen up so you don't make an ass of yourself or get scammed.
First up is a fabulous rant about the attitude of Craig's List posters looking for artists:
Craig's Pissed Next up is a fabulous site where art professionals can share their rage-inducing horror stories (which are more common than you would think):
Clients From Hell And finally, a hilarious video that mocks the dumb payment options that clients try to foist off on design professionals (and other contract workers) by moving the conversations to "real world" scenarios:
The Vendor-Client Relationship Click. Laugh. Share with friends. Maybe we can sway some minds! ^_^
[A giant thank you to Randy Milholland of
Something Positive for Tweeting "Craig's Pissed" yesterday, and to Spike of
Templar, Arizona for posting "Clients from Hell" months ago.]
EDIT: Ah haha! I just found a fabulous article that parallels this topic:
Don't Be a Tooler (a.k.a. "Why folks seem to think that owning a computer replaces the need for any kind of artistic ability in design.")
