... to prove it I will use my Icelandic keyboard. æöðþ! See!
The flight in was very late and I got to my hotel at about 3 30 am only to find that the girl I had been corresponding with had not ever actually booked me the rooms. No worries, it all worked out and I have a single room tonight at a heavy discount. 1000 kroner equals about 5 pounds, just for reference -- and my room tonight will only be 4000 kroner. Seriously, come to Iceland, it is to incredibly cheap here right now -- or at least, it is certainly cheaper than the UK (admittedly not hard).
The sun never set the entire time I was here (landed about 1 30 am), or at least, it was light enough out to read. As a result people were definitely still partying in the streets at 3 30 when I was drifting off to sleep. I slept for about five hours and then was out and about in an entirely deserted Reykjavik at 9am. Not even breakfast restaurants were open.
People´s English is fairly good here but not perfect, and most signs are not in English. This is kind of fun as I can now recognize the parts of grammar the words are but do not have a good vocabulary, so can´t read very much at all, but it´s not meaningless letters.
The landscape here is amazing, there are huge craters, conical mountains, glaciers, and rifts across the ground. It´s like the surface of the moon with grass out near the airport.
Tomorrow I am heading to Vatnsfjörður. Today I think I will go see some puffins and then go to a hot springs.
Unfortunately my new SD card seems to be broken -- my camera says it must be formatted but then when it tries cannot do it -- so I need to try to find a new one on a Sunday. The woman in the tourist office was doubtful. Sigh!
