Is there more to life than Yuletide?

Nov 01, 2006 23:26

yuletide signups close tomorrow and that's a good thing since I can't seem to stop checking the requested fandoms list every five minutes. As of ninety seconds ago, there are 781 ETA 831 participants. The previous record was 538 participants, so this is going to be huge!

The reason why I keep checking on fandom list is that I'm trying to figure out what I'm likely to be assigned. Because I'm a total freak, I've been keeping a tally of what I've asked, what I've offered and how many requests and offers there are for both. Since I'm sure this is of interest to nobody but me, I've got it under a cut.

For two of my four requests, I'm the only one for the given fandom. The third fandom has two requests and the fourth has three. I've clearly got the yuletide spirit of uniqueness down pat.

I've offered to write in twenty-eight fandoms. Leaving aside those that have no requests other than me, we have:

Alien Nation: 2 requests and 11 offers: 18.2%. I hate these odds. I really want to write this fandom, so I wish all those other offers would go away.

American President: 1 request and 26 offers: 3.8%. I'm unlikely to write this one and I'm alright with that.

Angie Sage's Septimus Heap: 1 request and 2 offers: 50%. This one looks fairly likely. I can't say I'm psyched about that because Sage is a terrible writer, but some of the characters are interesting. I suspect I can probably write them better than she can. (At the very least I can keep a consistent POV...)

Barbara Hambly's Windrose series: 6 requests and 9 offers: 66.7%. Another likely one. *throws confetti*

The Dark Crystal: 1 request and 21 offers: 4.8%. Unlikely. I think I'm glad.

Ellen Raskin's Westing Game: 1 request and 18 offers: 5.6%. Also unlikely. It would have been fun to pick Sandy's brain for bunnies for this one, but I'm okay.

Four Weddings and a Funeral: 1 request and 28 offers: 3.6%. I doubt I'll get this one. Just as well, since the gay couple were the only characters I truly loved.

Great Mouse Detective: 1 request and 15 offers: 6.7%: . Probably not. *pout* 'Cause what's more fun than misogynistic mice?

Greatest American Hero: 2 requests and 7 offers: 28.6%. *crosses fingers* Quite likely.

I Spy: 3 requests and 6 offers: 50%. Looks good. Sexy naked boys in foreign locales, here I come!

Indiana Jones: 4 requests and 44 offers: 9.1%. I doubt this one. Too bad, because I was looking forward to using archaeological gossip.

Lloyd Alexander's Prydain series: 5 requests and 28 offers: 17.9%. Another one I'd like to do. All you offered writers go away!

The Man Who Came to Dinner: 1 request and 3 offers: 33.3%. The original, accept-no-substitute, lovable bastard. I'd LOVE to do this one!

The Matrix series: 2 requests and 27 offers: 7.4%. Unlikely. Just as well.

Orson Scott Card's Ender's series: 6 requests and 28 offers: 21.4%. Also unlikely.

Patricia Wrede and Caroline Stevermer's Sorcery and Cecilia: 2 request and 22 offers: 9.1%. Pretty unlikely for this one, but a girl can hope.

Stephen King's The Stand: 3 requests and 30 offers: 10%. Probably not. The scope of this one scares me in any case.

The Thin Man: 2 requests and 9 offers: 22.2%. Good chance for Nick and Nora snark. Huzzah!

Trixie Belden Mysteries: 5 requests and 10 offers: 50%. This one looks fairly likely. Trixie/Jim OTP, baby!

So, the fandoms that I have at least a 25% chance of writing are: Windrose series, Trixie Belden, Septimus Heap series, I Spy, The Man Who Came to Dinner, and Greatest American Hero. Three book series, two elderly television shows starring Robert Culp and one screwball comedy from 1941. Add in Britcoms, and that looks pretty representative of my interests. And now watch all my odds calculating come to naught...

Of course, I have no business thinking about yuletide in any case when I'm still finishing my house_femfest story (due today) and am horribly stuck on the backsexy story (due two days ago). And let's not even talk about the Finishathon. *hangs head in shame*

Also, GIP from Saturday Night Live. This was a supremely odd moment, so I'm happy to have an icon for it.

house, yoooltide!
