Some more drabbles.
All drabbles in the set Prompt: 18. lost
Fandom, charters/pairings: Doctor Who; Doctor, the TARDIS, others implied
Warnings, notes: I don’t even know which Doctor I intended this for, it’s kind of any of them.
The TARDIS holds on to a few trinkets here and there of those who travel with them, but the Doctor keeps shrines to the lost. Not everyone, but those he carries with him anyway he also holds onto what they leave behind.
In time the old rooms move further from the center, into the depths of the TARDIS, ending up among rooms he’s long forgotten, but always able to be found if his TARDIS will let him. Sometimes she thinks she knows what’s best for him and hides the painful rooms, but she may forget other remembrances he always finds.
Prompt: 26. sunset
Fandom, charters/pairings: TVD; Lexi
Warnings, notes: only spoilers if you haven’t heard about the Other Side, so early s3 maybe
It was lonely on the Other Side, and no doubt as the years went by it could drive a person mad. At times it was like watching a very frustrating TV show, where you could walk among the performers but never touch or speak to them. But there were a few things Lexi liked about it, and for now she was still a glass half full sort of person.
After spending centuries trapped in shadows and night, now she could watch the sun rise and set, watch the clouds play across summer’s blue sky at noon; unafraid of it now.
Prompt: 30. grass
Fandom, charters/pairings: Doctor Who; Ten I; Doctor/Rose
Warnings, notes: more generic Doctor angst, although more focus I guess
The Doctor had heard the saying that ‘the grass is always greener on the other side’ a long time ago, and he sometimes tries to tell himself that now. That for all he knows his clone is in that other world, resenting that he has that life as much as the Doctor resent not having it. For all he knows, the other him longs to be an immortal Time Lord with a TARDIS and universe to explore because he thinks that grass is greener than his life.
But he doesn’t really believe that, his broken heart tells him quite differently.
Prompt: 32. time
Fandom, charters/pairings: Doctor Who; the Doctor
Warnings, notes: yet more general Doctor angst
There’s a saying among many cultures that time heals all wounds, but it isn’t exactly true. A lost limb won’t heal, wounds leave scars, old ones can cause pain years later. The pain will lessen with time, a life will go one.
Time Lords have a similar saying; and what time doesn’t heal, regeneration does. Usually. Some wounds are too extensive and deep for time or regeneration to do more that ease, and never erase.
If the wounds were visible, the Doctor would be covered in scars by now. Time and regeneration help him bear it, but it still hurts.
Prompt: 49. nap
Fandom, charters/pairings: Castle/TVD; Alexis, others
Warnings, notes: only very generic spoilers, I just like this as a crossover
It seemed like Jeremy and Elena never relaxed, certainly Alexis never saw them when they weren’t full of nervous energy. And that worried her because it implied that there was more to their history than the repeated tragedies people knew about.
But her dad rarely even joked that they must be cursed and Kate didn’t seem suspicious that the Gilberts had darker motives for fleeing to New York. If neither of those two were concerned that the other teenagers might be stalked by something that would follow them, why did Alexis fear it enough to keep her up at night?
Prompt: 64.
Fandom, charters/pairings: Babylon 5; Londo
Warnings, notes: late s5 spoilers, but not entirely directly, but look at that picture, what else could I do?
He had thought he had filled the prophecy of the technomage and worked to leave a different, better mark on the galaxy. He hadn’t wiped out his past, he wouldn’t have been able to, but he could try and heal what he had helped destroy.
All for naught it seemed. It would be his hand that reached across the stars, it would be his name the victims screamed in hatred. And it would not matter that his hand was forced, his hand could only be forced because of his prior choices. Damned to living hell, and doubtless the one beyond.
Prompt: 76.
Fandom, charters/pairings: Doctor Who; the Doctor
Warnings, notes: *still* more generic Doctor thoughts, I tried to put most of it in this post, and slightly less angst here
Humans, especially those of the eras the Doctor frequented, were so small in cosmic terms; and so capable of being more. In so many ways the Doctor was advanced beyond them in ways they couldn’t even comprehend yet, but it others they astounded him. While they stood in respect or awe of him, he marveled at them. They showed strength he lacked, even wisdom that eluded him; so small that most of the galaxy had written them off as insignificant.
But the Doctor could see what they, as the species he watched over and the individuals he admired, would become.
Prompt: 79.
Fandom, charters/pairings: Doctor Who/SG-1 crossover world; SG-1 and Rose, includes Daniel/Rose since it’s this headcanon verse
Warnings, notes: Set late s8 SG-1 timeframe, basically the end of Threads in my verse
The world was constantly changing, but it was poised on the edge of radical change right now, and the team was no different. Teal’c would be spending more of his time with his people, the rest of them were likely to be offered larger positions in managing Earth’s relationship with interstellar affairs. Daniel and Rose were even talking about having kids.
But for today they were just five people without the weight of planets on their shoulders, all gathered at Jack’s cabin the way he’d been trying to get some of them there for years. They might only have today.
Prompt: 84. Author's Choice
Fandom, charters/pairings: TVD; Rebekah, Elijah; Elijah/Katherine, Elijah/Elena
Warnings, notes: spoilers for late s4
Slowly, Rebekah was able to put the pieces together, how Elijah had gone from shutting her out because of what happened to Elena to claiming he now loved Katherine. To all appearances he had buried his feelings for Elena so deep they didn’t matter anymore, but that wasn’t Elijah.
No, it seemed he was smart enough to know what it would mean if Klaus figured out about those feelings. He might be foolish enough to have ever gotten involved with Katherine Pierce, but he wasn’t fool enough to miss the way Klaus acted when one of them actually loved something.
Prompt: 87. Author's Choice
Fandom, charters/pairings: Downton Abbey; Mary, others
Warnings, notes: no real spoilers past the first ep or two, but implied spoilers for later
Mary had never expected love, she couldn’t afford to expect it. She and Patrick knew they did not love each other but they would be a good match and they would hold Downton in good stead for another generation. And if she found an even more prosperous match, Edith would gladly step into her vacated place.
For all she wanted Downton, Mary could not reconcile herself to Matthew the same way, and there were plenty of young men out there better suited to her position and stature. And he should have been relieved.
Her parents always said love took time.
