I just got done reading, “Through Painted Deserts: Light, God, and Beauty on the Open Road” By Don Miller. I promised I'd tell ya'll what I think, so here it is!
I liked the book. His other two books ("Blue Like Jazz" and "Searching for God Knows What"), both contain a lot of challanging thoughts on God and the Christian Life. They are disigned to do so and I loved 'em. This book is in a different format. It's actually a re-write of the book he wrote a long time and couldn't really sell. If your looking for substance, don't look here, but if your looking for just some interesting reading, it's a good read.
The book follows Don and Paul as they take a road trip that starts in Houstan, Texas and eventually leads to Sisters, Oregon. Along the way there are many funny incidents, thoughtful conversations, and just plain randomness! Have you ever played "night golf" before? Well, their form of it left me doubled over in laughter, literally. I enjoyed the thoughtfullness, appreciated the laughter, and thought it was just plain fun to get inside the mind of some guys on a road trip! Good read. Not deep, but good.
