Yesterday was the day of the Dash. The reason I'd been doing all this training and such. I have to be honest, the night before I was really nervous. Not only was I doing the Dash for the first time, but I hadn't ever done even a basic 5k before. Sure I had looked up the obstacles but you know it's a bit different than actually doing them. I wasn't the only one though, my cousins were a little nervous as well. Especially since a few of them hadn't actually bothered to look them up. So, you know I might have had to get graphic about some of the obstacles. If only to mess with their heads a bit. :D
We ended up dinking around a bit and all, so we didn't make our heat. Thankfully they didn't really care what heat you ran in so we did the 10:30 heat instead. This was our group, doing our best warrior yell! I'm the girl in blue with the pigtails of power!
Holy crap! The running was a heckuva lot harder than I was expecting! I'd been running outside for the past week and had been up to 3 miles on the treadmill. But dooooode, I got through maybe a quarter mile before I was walking. But that was ok, but my cousins are made of win and awesome and we did a "no warrior left behind" mentality. We did it all together (besides my bro and my cousin A who was doing it as an actual race) and encouraged each other at the obstacles. Like you know, going under de-pointed barbed wire and then leaping over 4' foot walls. Or climbing up a 30' foot wall with a rope. Or sliding down into a mud pit and then climbing out again. It was so VERY COOOL!!!! BTW, I might be able to run very well yet, but I totally ROCKED the obstacles. My cousins were a little impressed I think! And yes, there was mud. There was a LOT of mud! There was so much mud you weren't really sure what to do with it, especially when you were crocodile walking through it under the de-pointed barbed wire.
The "No Warrior Left Behind" crowd after the mud, and the water and the cargo nets and the fire!! Cuz hell yes, we jumped over the fire! A couple of my cousins were like "um... what do you mean fire?" but they did it anyway. We all did it, every single one of us. And we had such a great time we're already planning another run next year!!! I can't wait!
