Cake Flavored Ice Cream (It's The Ice-Creamiest!)

A couple mini-critiques:

I recently read The Lazarus Effect by Frank Herbert and Bill Ransom.
It was cool, but weird as all hell. That's alright, all of Herbert's stuff is. The strong ecological message was there, as in most of Herbert's books. I'm not sure what Ransom had to do with the book, other than the fact that there were some definite poetic devices at work within the text, for instance:

"I'm not a monster, Mr. Justice."
"I'm not a Justice, Mr. Gallow."

It took me a while to remember what the hell that was called... but it's chiasmus, or interlocking word order to create a direct comparison. Justice on the lower line corresponds to Justice on the upper line. They're the same word, same concept, etc. Gallow and monster likewise correspond, clearly equating Gallow with monstrosity.

Anyway, that's enough Poetry 101 for today...

An aside... FUCK YOU PATTY DELORME! ^that's literary criticism, what you taught was mindless hippie thought-wanking.

heh.

I also saw The Village. It was alright. Kind of creepy at times, silly at others. I knew the ending going in, as Johnny Briggs gave me a heads-up, but I could see how if you didn't know what was going on it could be very convincing. Krista and I sat in the nice seats in the back of Cinema 1 at Emerald, which was pretty cool.

In fact, being with Krista in general is pretty cool. I must like her or something. :)

In other news, my Dell Axim X30 kicks total and utter ass. I've installed a dictionary, ebook reader, frequency tuner, and a metronome so far, and I'm gunning to get a universal remote program before too long.

But why, might you ask, do I need a metronome and tuner?
The answer, of course, is that I have opted to join the Norwich University Regimental Band instead of one of the conventional companies (Alpha, Bravo, etc...). It is my experience that the more intellectual folk gravitate towards band organizations, and I figure living with other music-oriented people will be easier for me in general. I hope I can get my trumpet repaired before I leave, as the bell is in pretty sorry shape. Other than that all it needs is a thourough cleaning to be ready for action.

I originally hadn't planned on joining the marching band... but when the option came up I felt a sort of warm glowly feeling, and decided to go for it. I also remembered that the trumpet is a kickass instrument, and that I really do want to be better at it... the only way that's happening is if I play some music. I did enjoy being a part of the Amsterdam Marching Rams, even if I was quite disenfranchised by my senior year. This band will be a different story altogether. No geeky uniforms, just standard cadet threads. Alas it means I'll be carrying a trumpet instead of a rifle in parades, but then, it gets me out of the massed ranks of rifle-carriers. Einstien said something once about always avoiding the groups of people who all seem to be doing the same thing... I guess joining the military at all goes against this, but I'll do what I can within the system. The other pro of the whole deal is the opportunity to play taps at Veterans' funerals, a duty which I have always wanted to perform, and which pays rather handsomely, as experienced bugle players are in short supply across the nation. In fact, it's pretty well publicized that more people are turning to electronic bugles, which is pretty silly, if you ask me.

I'm sure there's more stuff to write about, but I can't think of it at the moment.
