The Crystal Star, Chapter Two

Alright! Sorry the thread is a little late. I've been extremely busy and had more trouble actually getting ahold of the book then I thought I would.

Chapter 2 pretty much sets the scene for the secondary storyline of the book; Han and Luke are off by themselves on a seemingly random adventure, and of course, complications occur. It also establishes Luke's rather strange characterization for the book, which was probably the thing that I found most unsettling the first time I read it.

But despite it's seeming irrelevence, there is one allusion to the Solo kids in this chapter that seem to shed some interesting light on the dynamics of the Solo family, particularly as viewed through Han's eyes.

Han seldom admitted his nightmares, but he had nightmares about what could happen to his children if they were tempted to the Dark Side. Chapter 2, p. 34-35.

As far as I can recall, Leia has always been the one with the Dark Side issues, particularly when it comes to her children, even to the point of not even wanting to take the chance of allowing them to exist, a la Tattoine Ghost. Up until this point, I don't remember it even being hinted that Han shared similar fears. Given the fact that he does, apparently, it casts an interesting implication on the kids themselves.

All three of them have strong powers of empathy, Jacen most of all. Could any or all of them be picking up on it, even on a subconcious level? Even if no one ever said it, the Solo kids are generally pretty bright. It can't be much fun growing up being scrutinized for OMG!Sith! every time you pull your sister's hair.

So, discuss! What did everyone else notice? Anything different? Does the book suck less/more now? I have to say it's not nearly as horrible as I remember it being, despite some rather awkward sentence structure throughout (see above quote), and not!Luke.
