...There is Thomas Vaughan, whose story is said to possibly have been the inspiration for the Hound story. Other interrelated families play into the legend, too.
Here is an archived copy of the website for Baskerville Hall, which (website) is no longer in existence. Note that it was built by Thomas MYNORS Baskerville...a descendant of those same people (Vaughan/Mynors/Minor/Baskerville) who lived at Treago and are on Mam Mam's side of the Chandler tree. The history given on this site appears to back up the theory that Conan Doyle was inspired by the border area near Hergest Ridge.
