SUMMARY: Set in April 2013, the famous Maotsujun couple who had finally reunited for another drama under TBS was about to sing together in front of thousands of people in Tokyo Dome. Mao is worried as it was her first time. Jun was worried too. He had lost count of the times he had performed in front of thousands of people but this time it’s different. Way too different…

AUTHOR'S NOTES: I've had this fic for quite sometime already but I was just too shy to post it yet. This story had been invading my mind while I was trying so hard to concentrate on reviewing for a quiz so I decided to write it down to get it off. Be warned: this fic is a bit "cheesy".. I hope though that some might find it entertaining if not fulfilling for their shipper hearts.. ^_^

So... On with the show fic..

Ouji's Surprise

“I can’t believe this is actually happening..” Inoue Mao nervously whispered.

She was peeking at the stage and the thousands of people around it. She’s about to sing in front of thousands of people at Tokyo Dome.

“Daijoubu.. You’ll do fine.” Matsumoto Jun reassuringly told her.

Mao turned around and stared at her companion Matsumoto Jun or Ouji as Mao fondly calls him. Who would’ve thought this would happen. She and her Ouji would be singing together on stage- just the two of them.

After the huge success of Special A, the second drama they’ve done together (which came 5 years after Hana Yori Dango final movie), the staff and TBS management decided to held a huge thanksgiving concert/show for their loyal fans and they’ve collaborated with the Johnny’s Entertainment Agency in planning for the said show. As a result aside from the casts, Arashi was also included in the list of performers. They had, after all, provided four of the drama’s theme songs which was also a first for them and because of their inclusion in the show, the management decided to hold it at Tokyo Dome since they were expecting thousands of people.

And they were right! A day after they started accepting reservations, the tickets were already sold out.

They are now nearing the end of the show and the next performance would be Mao and Jun singing a special song used in the drama which they had recorded themselves.

“Easy for you to say.. This must be your hundredth time singing in front of a huge crowd but this is gonna be my first time.” She pointed out before turning back to eyeing the crowd.

Jun smiled. Mao looks really cute when she’s nervous. He slowly walked towards her and put a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

Mao felt Jun’s warm hand on her shoulder making her look up at him again. She could see the concern in his eyes as well as something else.

“I told you, you’ll do fine and who told you I am not nervous right now?” Jun asked.

“Why?? Are you nervous? Arashi’s Matsumoto Jun is nervous??” Mao teasingly asked him.

“I am. Everytime I perform in front of people I feel nervous. I’m afraid that I would commit a mistake in the midst of the performance. Demo.. I would try to push that thought to the back of my mind because thinking those things would only lead me into actually doing it. So, stop worrying Hime before I start to lose control and worry too. You’ve got no idea how nervous I am right now. I have indeed been performing in front of many people for many years but this time it’s different.” Jun told her.

“Different? Why is it different??” Mao curiously asked although she already has a hunch as to what the answer might be.

“Different because I’ll be performing it with you Hime. I am nervous because I don’t know if I can control myself out there. Especially since the song we’ll be singing is something I had composed for you.” Jun seriously answered.

Mao felt a mixture of emotions. He’s right! That’s another thing that Mao is worried about. Will they be able to control their feelings while singing the drama’s special theme song which Jun had composed himself? Will she be able to stop herself from holding him and from crying once he sings the song which conveys nothing but his love for her?

She could remember the last and only time they’ve sung it on TV together, she almost lost control then. That’s why they’ve decided not to sing it in front of people again even if the song and their performance both received positive reviews.

But they can’t not sing it here today!

They considered not doing it at the start but then the fans were all anticipating it.  There were plenty of fan mails asking for them to perform it again on the show.

Mao stared into Jun’s eyes. Now she know what that something else she had earlier noticed in them really was: anxiousness. If only they were alone she would give his Ouji a kiss- a reassuring kiss.

“Gomen ne.. I’ll stop worrying now so you don’t have to worry too Ouji.” She assured him with a soft smile on her lips.

Jun smiled too.

The crowd erupted with cheers- a signal that Kazumasa Oda had finished singing.

“I think it’s time Hime.” Jun told her extending his hand towards her.

She looked at Jun’s hands and with her smile growing wider; she took it and nodded at Jun as they started to walk towards the stage.

*****

“There’s something different with Jun today.” Mao thought.

They are now onstage singing “Zutto Aishiteru”- Jun’s song. They are now at the center of the stage and nearing the end of the song and so far, everything was perfect.

As Jun took Mao’s hand and as they stared into each others’ eyes, Mao noticed a glint of mischievousness along with nervousness in Jun’s eyes.

You made me see life in a new light

You who see through the mask I wore day and night

You whose laughter brings music to my ears

You whose eyes I’d love to stare at for all my life

Mao’s eyes are stinging already but she’s trying hard not to let the tears drop.

The final chorus came up and Jun unceremoniously placed Mao’s hand on his heart. Mao was surprised but she tried not to show it and just sang with him.

I never thought love would come to me

In the most unexpected time of the day

I never thought my life could get any more colourful

Than it was before I met you

Slowly, four figures came out of the shadows and stood near the back of the stage. Mao gave Jun a questioning look just before the last stanza of the song came.

I would never let go of you- the unique and fascinating you

I can’t imagine living a life without you

Zutto Aishiteru

Forever, my Hime, I’ll love you…

Mao was still throwing questioning glances at the four figures behind them when the man in front of her slowly lowered his head and kissed her.

Mao’s mind momentarily stopped; maybe due to the kiss or maybe because she was just shocked. Jun was kissing her in front of thousands of people!!

The entire Tokyo Dome fell into deafening silence.

Jun slowly ended the kiss and stepped back. Mao was then brought back to her senses and she was about to open her mouth and question Jun when he suddenly knelt down in front of her and took out a small box from his coat’s pocket just as Ohno, Sho, Aiba and Nino pulled down 4 strings which Mao initially thought to be part of the decorations.

WILL YOU MARRY ME?

The tears Mao had tried hard to keep from falling a while ago came pouring down as she read the four words which were tied to the ropes.

“Will you stay by my side always and forever? Will you take care of me until we grow older? Will you love me even if I get bald and weaker? Will you love me even if I stop being famous? Will you be the mother of my children?”

Mao’s vision started to get blurry from her tears as they dangerously continued flowing even harder while she was listening to Jun’s words.

“In short…. Inoue Mao… Hime.. Will you marry me??” Jun finished off as his eyes full of love focused only on Mao.

Silence.

“Arienaitsuno!!” Mao blurted out after a few seconds making a few people from the crowd chuckle. Then smiling widely at Jun she held out her hand at him which he joyfully took as he slowly stood up and put on the ring on her finger.

Jun looked up from the ring and into Mao’s eyes.

The crowd then erupted with cheers as Jun pulled Mao to him and embraced her tightly.

“I think this is the loudest cheer I’ve ever heard.” Aiba said. He also had tears in his eyes.

“Yeah.. Even louder than when we have our concerts ne?” Ohno commented.

“Looks like we need not worry about what will happen after this. I’m so happy for the two of them.” Sho added. Jun had been anxious as to how the people would react when he proposes to Mao at the show especially since they have yet to announce that they are in a relationship.

“Hai! I guess you’re right Sho-kun. J must have captured their hearts with his proposal. I’ll make sure to ask his advice when it’s time for me to do that too.” Nino blurted out.

“I wonder when that’ll be..” Ohno naughtily commented.

“I’m pretty sure it’ll be sooner than yours..” Nino mischievously replied making both Aiba and Sho laugh.

And while the four were making fun of each other….

“Aishiteru.” Mao lovingly told Jun who smiled down at her. He then captured her lips and kissed her.

“I love you too Hime! Always and forever..”

Endnotes/Explanation: I saw a post on tumblr about how Jun and Mao would fit the role of the main characters in Special A and in the past few days I was actually imagining Jun proposing to Mao in one of Arashi’s concerts. Then one night, this story just formed into my mind just as I was about to review for my Humanities subject. I know right then that I won’t be able to concentrate unless I wrote it down. And that’s how I came up with this fanfic. The song lyrics included was purely an on-the-spot composition of mine. As for the idea of him writing a song, I have been wishing for Jun to write another song just like his “La Familia” and if he’ll write something for Mao, then I’ll be ecstatic. Also, as I was writing Jun’s proposal lines I remembered an episode of Arashi ni Shiyagare wherein they were tasked to propose to a girl they’ve been dating. Jun’s was going smoothly until he said the phrase “in short” which made the other four members react because they all think that it was inappropriate to use it there but after trying again, he still manages to slip the words “in short”. So, why did I put it there?? I really don’t know but I just had the urge to include it. Well, that’s all. I hope you liked the fic.. ^_^
