I was reminded of this story today...
When I was in Vegas for my 21st birthday, I was sitting by the pool at our hotel playing blackjack. To my right, a man in his thirties was playing hundreds of dollars at a time..and losing. As I sat there, I watched him lose over ten thousand dollars. Who knows, maybe he was up thirty grand from the night before. Maybe it was his mortgage payment.
He must have noticed my poorly-concealed amazement because as he reached into his pocket for another wad of hundred dollar bills, he looked up at me and said, "it's only money and if you can't figure out how to make some, you're stupid."
