Re internet: stevemb & I have been pretty happy with Speakeasy.

Willing victims for a board game play group, to meet at least every other week (once a week would be best but I know that everyone has crazy schedules) that will involve occasional play test of games in development. Brent will need folks to try prototypes out on and it would be great to have a play group of about 6 people to really run paces. The play test would be open to anyone within the group who has a prototype to offer up.

Games Club of Maryland has a regular Friday evening session in Silver Spring. thelongshot, stevemb & I are regulars, so at least occasional rides are possible. Playtests have been enthusiastically enabled in the past.

I'll see what I can do about your other issues.

there's also dcgamenight
Also see chez_turtle. Good crowd, good games, and I never get there b/c they're out in Ashburn. But Bethesda is far farther West than I usually am...

Thanks! I'll look into both groups. I had forgotten about the Chez Turtle gaming parties. As I said in my response to starmalachite, we would rather run our group out of where ever we are living to make things easier on Ian but the Chez Turtle group might be a good compromise.

Re Internet: It looks like we are going with FiOS. Brent needs the connection to be better than the average home connection because he'll be using it for work and downloading a lot of hi quality graphics. And getting Mom's house wired for fibre optics is a selling point. The house isn't even cable ready now. katrinb and thelongshot seem to be happy with their FiOS service (at least they haven't complained in my hearing and I've asked) and so are our friends Cal & Lynne out here. And with phone, TV and Internet bundled we'd be paying about the same for the bundle as we are paying out here for the three services separately and we'll get long distance as part of the package, which we don't have out here ( ... )

Since FiOS is available, then yes, that's probably your best option. Not everyone around here can get it yet -- for instance, thesheryl & gorgeousgary are still somewhat grumpily waiting, since their existing choices are all subpar.

As for gaming, whatever works. If hosting's easier for you than commuting, we'll definitely come visit. And Friday night gaming has moved to a Potbelly Sandwiches location & so is even less toddler-friendly than before.
