Animals, Dogtown, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

This is going to be something of a strange entry for me.  I don't generally discuss myself in any great detail, as you are all aware.  Well, except for my obsessive Tom Welling fixation, which I'm happy to discuss in great detail.  Oh yeah, and my ongoing love for Smallville....

OK, anyway, getting off the subject...

But there's another great love in my life other then Tom, and it's animals.  Since I was a little girl, I've rarely met an animal I didn't love.  Currently I have 3 fluffballs (aka cats).  I'll introduce you to them behind the cut to shorten this main entry, and leave space for something more important.

Anyway, there's this wonderful, amazing place in Kenab, Utah called the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (http://www.bestfriends.org/ ).  Its one of the most inspiring and kindest places on Earth.  If you love animals as much as I do, and judging by some of the entries I've seen on my flist, I know some of you do, then this is a place that will break your heart, and make you thankful that there are people like this out in the world.

On September 5th, on the National Geographic Channel, the 2nd season of Dogtown will be starting.  The 1st season of Dogtown introduced the audience to this place at Best Friends that takes in dogs from all over, and makes them well, trains them, loves them, and does their best to find a home for them all.  No dog is considered unsaveable, or unloveable.  Sometimes it was sad (and I mean cry your eyes out sad), but it was always uplifting.

This 2nd season ( http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/series/dogtown#tab-Overview ) will be concentrating on the pitbulls that were rescued from the fighting compound run by former NFL quarterback Michael Vick.  I won't get into a discussion about Vick here, or what I'd like to see happen to him, because he's not important enough for that.  Best Friends has renamed them The Victory Dogs.

I urge everyone who loves dogs, who loves animals, to thank National Geographic for making this show, and also if you could show Best Friends a little love too.  NO, NO, I am not asking you to give them money.  I'm just asking you...if this moves you as much as it moves me...to send them a note and say thank you.  Because they are awesome, and they deserve it. :)

And now, if you'd like to meet my cats, Type your cut contents here.

In fact, I would love if everyone used the comments to this entry to post a picture or two of their animals, and introduce them.  A few of them I've already met, on-line, that is. :)

This is my Boo Bear.  He's a black persian, and he's 13 yrs old.  He doesn't actually look like this anymore.  He's recently been diagnosed with asthma, and had had 2 hospitalizations with pneumonia.  Its taken a bit of a toll on his weight, and his gorgeous fur, but not on his spirit, his ability to talk your ear off, and his loving nature.

This is Winter.  If Winter could figure out a way to live in my pocket, he'd do it.  He's rarely 6 feet away from me when I'm at home.  He used to be a bit shy, but after successfully treating a medical ailment we didn't even know he had, not only did he put on 4 lbs, but he's turned into a feisty kitty.  He's 12 years old.

And this is Winter again, with his brother Duncan.  And yes, they are full brothers (they share a father with Boo).  I'm sorry I didn't have a solo picture of Dunc.  Duncan is the cat that everyone who has ever come over to my house wants to go home with.  To say he's affectionate, loving and cute is like saying Tom Welling is "ok looking".  He purrs, he lapsits, he hugs, he coo's, he rubs his ear when he wants your attention....the list of cutie things Duncan does is endless.  Did I mention he's a tad overweight too?

Oh, if you don't want to post a picture of your fur baby, thats OK.  You can just feel free to gush over them and tell me why they are the bestest animal in the whole world. ;)

Thanks everyone for letting me indulge my sentimental side.
