Wow, its been a long time. Sadly, I don't have much to say these days. I guess all I had to talk about was Smallville, and I don't have that much more to say about that

I've been surprised to find myself pretty content to set Smallville aside for the moment. I'm sure I'll come back to it, and I have watched a dozen or so episodes here and there since the finale, but I'm much more focused on Tom now, fan-wise, and anticipating what he might do next. I'm glad he's taking some time for himself, and he more than deserves it, but like you, I'm fighting back a rising tide of panic as each day passes without news of a new project. Still, Tom himself recently pointed out in an interview how fleeting success in the entertainment industry can be, and he seems to thrive on being crazy busy, so I keep telling myself he must be actively pursuing work.
I agree that in S10 Smallville covered a lot of ground that had been covered before, and better, in earlier seasons. I'll never regret having ten years of Tom on my TV screen, but the show could have ended a lot sooner, and S6-10 had as much bad as they did good, IMO. In spite of that, though, I think Tom took Clark to new places right up until the end, and continued to grow and develop as an actor. Every episode had moments that made me remember why this show was my favorite from the first day I saw it to the last. Because of Tom. I can't say I miss the show, but I sure do miss him.
I never made it past the Falling Skies pilot, in spite of my love for Mark Verheiden, Greg Beeman, Noah Wyle, and Sarah Carter. It just didn't capture my interest, and I think unfortunately it suffered because I watched it not long after I saw Super 8. Of course there is no comparison between the two, in spite of Spielberg's involvement with both. Super 8 was amazing. But I felt like FS had a lot of the darkness and anxiety Super 8 had, but none of the charm and humor and hope.
That's my biggest problem with the show as a whole, and V suffered from it, too. It's better suited for a movie than a TV series, IMO. When your story revolves around this big conflict with conquering aliens, you can't sustain the show long-term if the good guys are winning all the time. So instead we get smaller, symbolic moments of victory buried in waves of struggle and loss. And unless the battle is particularly entertaining or inspiring, I'm not signing up for that. Call it post-Smallville burn-out, but I don't want to see my heroes endlessly beaten down anymore.
I've watched every season of True Blood, and I like it, but I have to be in the right mood for it. So far the new season is sitting on my DVR, but your description makes me want to dive in. I kind of have to brace myself for all that gore and relentless nudity. :) I'm Team Eric all the way, and have been from the start. Not in the shipper sense, I just think Eric is awesome. And I love Lafayette, too. Tara and Jason drive me nuts. I spent most of last season wanting to smack them repeatedly.
I'm not really up on what the new shows are, I honestly usually wait until the TV Guide that lists them all comes out, and then I sit down and make my viewing grid. :) I'll be watching all three of the new CW shows for sure, though. I'm also watching lots more than I usually do this summer! I swear, it's like another full season, it's just that most of the shows are on cable channels.
I have no stories to tell, all I do is work too much and stalk Tom Welling on the internet. :) I'm trying to plan a trip to Colorado sometime in September, though, and I might be going to Disneyland in October. They have a new Ariel ride, and I'm dying to see it. And then go crazy in the gift shop.
Its so hard to figure out what motivates Tom, and what he wants. But I certainly hope he's got some irons in the fire. I figure the fact that he wants his domain name has to mean something, right?
I'm with you, in that no matter how I feel about SV overall, or the last season in particular, I really couldn't have been more satisfied with Tom, or his portrayal of Clark in every single season. Really, I have very few quibbles with the SV actors in general. I think Tom did an amazing job over 10 years, and that I'll always be thankful for.
I loved Super 8 too. Very entertaining movie, and very well done. Falling Skies just seems to have no real heart to it, and yet its full of maudlin sentimentality that rings hollow. None of it feels authentic. And I just can't figure out why its so bad considering the people involved with it. Now, maybe if they hire Tom for next season, I'll watch. Someone suggest that to Beeman on his blog! Tom could be reunited with Sarah, and we'd finally get a a charismatic actor, give Sarah something to work with, and the show might get more interesting.
I'm also Team Eric all the way. And really, whatever my feelings about Sookie, her and Eric are really meant to be. I've always thought that was fairly obvious. It sort of amuses me that Anna Paquin has more interesting chemistry with Alexander then with her own husband, but that happens sometimes. I never liked Tara or Jason either, but she's much improved this year. Jason's storyline is awful though.
I don't think the CW shows are for me. Maybe the SMG one. But the other two just aren't my cup of tea.
Colorado sounds great! I think I might be going to Turks and Caicos in October, but the trip is in the early planning stages, and part of me thinks I should stay home and save money. The other part of me thinks Fuck It, you only live once.
Its so hard to figure out what motivates Tom, and what he wants.
Quoted for truth. I realize it's part of his appeal for me, but does he have to be SO mysterious?
I figure the fact that he wants his domain name has to mean something, right?
I'm clinging to that thought as well, and checking the site at least once a week to see if anything has changed.
Falling Skies just seems to have no real heart to it, and yet its full of maudlin sentimentality that rings hollow.
I think that's a very astute comment, and it's a flaw that keeps me from fully investing in the characters emotionally. But it's already been renewed for S2, so I say yes to bringing Tom aboard! If they do, I promise to watch every episode to catch up.
I'm mostly looking forward to The Secret Circle on the CW. I have a thing for witches, and I like the SV people who have joined the show (Don Whitehead, Holly Henderson, Mairzee Almas, Jae Marchant). Plus it has Gale Harold in it, in a role that is infinitely more suited for him than the one he played in Hellcats.
I vote for Fuck it, you only live once, but I'm a lot better at saying it than doing it. :) But I think Turks and Caicos would be amazing!
I forgot to tell you before, one of the shows I've been watching this summer is Switched at Birth. It's pretty cheesy, but I like it anyway. Anyway, one of the two main characters is played by Vanessa Marano, whom you may remember as April on Gilmore Girls. Evidently I still haven't let go of my rage over how April was brought on that show to break up Luke and Lorelai (in the most annoying way possible), because I pretty much hated her SaB character on sight. We're eight episodes in now, and I'm only just now beginning to warm up to her. :)
Well, if anything changes with the domain name, I'm sure you'll be one of the first to know! And you'll tell us!!
As strange as this may sound, I think all shows should have characters that turn you on in some way. And Falling Skies? Nobody! And thats boring. That was another problem I had with The Killing too.
I will probably go on the trip, or some other trip. I get twitchy if I don't get away every few months. If I had the budget, and the work schedule? I'd be traveling all the time. I love it.
I know what you mean about carrying over bad feelings you have about a character to the actor. Its why I don't think I'll be watching any Allison Mack stuff anytime soon.

Oh, I totally agree! And I'll admit I've watched some bad shows for far too long because of the appeal of a single character.

Sadly, I feel the same way. And I used to adore Chloe.
