My TV Viewing

Jun 20, 2011 22:50

So, 2 television shows I've been watching have drawn to a close, and 1 television show I've been waiting for has made its debut.

I'll put my comments about all 2 under a cut for anyone who doesn't wish to be spoiled for something or other.

The only reason I want to watch "The Killing" is because I remember seeing critics rave about it and now suddenly they're saying, "Kill it before it becomes like "Lost"". I have to see the show that has fallen out of favor so quickly.

GAME OF THRONES What a freaking kick ass series.

Astounding. For me the best hands down cable series I've watched in a good while.

It was good to be able to see Bran again, because the child actor playing him has a real deep and haunting quality about him. And I find Osha, the wilding woman, to be rather entertaining.

Osha and Bran are another great combo for me like Tyrion and the guy he's traveling with.

The kids are really incredible. It broke my heart to see all of their reactions to Ned's death.

I feel so bad for Sansa, and she hasn't been my favorite Stark child up till now. But she's now caught in an awful place, with no allies in sight. But could it be The Hound has developed a soft spot for her? I think so.

I think so too. I somewhat thinks he knew what she was planning on doing to the horrid Joffrey and he gave her the napkin as an excuse.

I think she was terrible in the past but now I feel for her. And like all the Stark children, she's proving to be very brave.

However, I would've preferred that he had let Sansa push that horrible inbred little shit Joffrey right off that bridge, which I feel certain she was planning to do.

Yes. I was even thinking she was going to toss herself over the side with him. She's seen how cruel the courts are, she knows Cersei isn't one to play around with. She'd have a "cleaner" death if she died by her own hand.

I was really torn on what I wanted Jon Snow to do. Because a big part of me really wants him to go be at Robb's side and join the fight against the Lannisters. But, on the other hand, I admire the sense of duty and honor that runs through the Stark family, and Jon's friends coming after him and reminding him of his oath was very touching.

I think his destiny is there at the wall. He'll save the kindgdom from the wall and hopefully Robb will handle it on the other side.

I've grown to love Robb. Here he is, leading an army, being proclaimed a king, and yet that scene when he soundly thrashed a tree, and fell into his mothers arms in tears highlighted just how very young he is.

I loved that scene. I love how they're all about duty but they haven't become hardened by it. Catelyn knew she had to appear brave in front of the other men but it didn't stop her from breaking down or allowing her son to do so.

How ironic that she should befriend the dead King's bastard son as she marches away from Kings Landing?

That was brilliant how they tied that together.

And I know Jaime is a total scuzbag, but I see a shred of humanity in him. And it was evident in his expression when Lady Stark walked away from him. After all that bravado, you could see that tiny flicker cross his face. I hope there's something more to him.

But I wonder what it is. I couldn't read it. Was he, like his dad, now regretting how fast things have fallen? Was it because he himself has done dastardly things? I'm glad he's not just a brutish sister-nail-er.

Might those be the first semi-kind words he ever heard from his father? I think so.

His eyes! His eyes when his father poured him a glass. He's never had such kindness from his dad.

And I think he'll be an excellent Hand of the King. Though I doubt Joffrey and Cersei will think so.

That's another battle. That'll be a good fight.

And she thought she was doing the right thing. A kindness. And yeah, yeah, I get that the old witch had a point, but I still smiled when Dany had her tied to the funeral pyre. I thought her mercy killing of Drogo was tragic and romantic.

I felt really bad for her. She had nothing and now she has to forge it alone, but she got some good help. I think whoever has dragons win. Game over.

And then...then....DRAGONS! Squeeeeeeeeeee

It was such a strangely beautiful picture of her almost like the Venus de Milo with dragons.

I think those in charge of The Killing overestimated just how compelling a show they were, and overestimated just how annoyed people would be at no payoff. Like I said before, if the show had been more interesting and exciting as it went along, I don't think you'd see so many upset people. But as it is, I suspect there were a lot of people like me who convinced ourselves that it was worth sitting through to find out who killed Rosie in the season finale.

In any case, I won't be around for S2.

There have been a number of HBO series I've really loved, i.e. Carnivale, Rome, Deadwood. Game of Thrones certainly ranks right up there with them.

I'm still a little mad at Ned for bringing his daughters along, and not recognizing the danger to them sooner. Because look where he's left Sansa and Arya now.

I get a very strong feeling that Jon is one of those characters that will be standing at the end of the book series (and this series), and him even being King wouldn't shock me. He sort of has that "destiny character" thing about him.

I think one of the reasons that Jaime is a hard to read is because we haven't really seen a ton of him, especially not in scenes where he's really revealed that much about himself. I suspect thats coming, and once we get to know him better, we'll know if there's a shred of decency in him. I doubt there's one in Cersei, and there's NONE in Joffrey at all.

I not only look forward to Tyrion doing battle with Cersei and Joffrey, but I look forward to him out manipulating Littlefinger, Varys, and the old geezer.

Dany is another one of those "destiny characters" to me. I have this vision of the North (Jon) coming together with the South (Dany) to defeat whats coming from behind the wall, and purge the kingdom of all the scumbags. Would love that.

I have to find an icon of Dany and her dragons.

In all fairness he did try to get them out...I know in the books it's Sansa who spills the beans and that's why everything goes to hell. Perhaps they didn't want to reveal it here but it would make her seem too unsympathetic? But he did try. But by then it was too late....
