I have to preface this story for anyone reading who doesn't know my kids personally. Jacob is an intensely curious boy who is always asking "why?" and "how?" He always has wheels turning in his head as he tries to figure out the world.
Jacob does not have a mean bone in his body and the following exchange was said in complete innocence and logic with zero intention of being hurtful. When it happened, we all cracked up. It was hysterical. But reading it in text, I fear it loses the flavor of Jacob. If he had said his part of the conversation in any other tone of voice besides his normal purely curious, wanting to know "why?" tone of voice, it could sound really bad.
SO, tonight Jacob was trying to convince Hillel's Mom (Safta) to have a sleep over at our house. She's a teacher, and told Jacob "one day when I don't have to teach a class, I will sleep over at your house." Jacob said "why don't you call in a substitute to work for you? Then, you can sleep over!" We all laughed and Hillel's Mom said something like "What a smart idea! I never had such an idea. You are such a smart boy, I should ask you next time." To which Jacob replied "Why don't you use your brain instead of getting ideas from other people?"
Oh. My. Goodness. Our jaws dropped open in OMG kind of laughter. Poor Jacob couldn't figure out what was so funny.
funny,
