Most of the time, I'd think of Ateneo as our University's friendly rival. I respect my Atenean friends and cousins. I think that Ateneo has taught them welll, really. I even think that in some ways, Ateneo IS better than La Salle. But this is taking the rivalry too far. Burning our players' names? We never did that last year when we lit the torch.

FINE. WE LOST. We respected that.
You won. You said it was a fair fight.
But!
OUR PLAYERS DO NOT DESERVE THIS.
AND. Disclaimer lang. Before you defend yourselves and say that this was made up, here are some Ateneans' blogs! Eyewitnesses. And they had fun.
PUTEK! Literally. --click here if you don't believe me

Did you know they actually wrote the names of some la salle players on the bonfire wood? It was so funny, the Mangahas and Rico planks were the first to burn. Very nice guys.
Ateneo Bonfire Funny din nung woods dun sa bonfire. Etched on those were the names of Archers: Maierhoffer, Casio, Mangahas, et al. They were burned nga.
a couple of bonfire pictures where apparently an ateneo alumni made an effort to get the wood, write the names of la salle players (old and new), include an arrow design, put the wood in his car, carried the wood into the bonfire and waited for it to burn.
i thought that's a really hilarious thing to do! it's totally unexpected and very funny! i bet someone in la salle, as we speak is already thinking of ways to top this one for next season's la salle celebration if they win next year.
it's things like these - the passion, the intensity and the sillyness that makes the ateneo-la salle rivalry the best and the most in the country. it has been there for decades, it will still be there for decades more. it's what makes the rivalry legendary and of mythic proportions.
can't wait for next year when la salle tops this one. we shall all have a laugh and much louder than this year, for sure.
