dw 08x11: dark water

You know, I think I would have liked this episode a lot more if it wasn’t...how do I put this? Shoddily written. Yes, that’s it.

I really get the feeling that Moffat just doesn’t know how to write for Peter Capaldi’s Doctor. Like, I know he’s said before that he just writes the Doctor, but this doesn’t even come across as the writing for Matt Smith’s Doctor. He has some good moments (“Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference?”), but on the whole? Very uneven. Which, you know, explains the unevenness of Twelve in the prior episodes if even the showrunner doesn’t quite know what he’s doing.

And why can’t the Master call himself the Master now that he’s a woman? Like...what? He’s the Master. Okay, fine, he’s female now. But why does that necessitate a name change? Yes, this is what I’m upset about. (Okay, I’m slightly upset that we’re getting the Master again. Not that he’s female now, but that it’s the Master again. Couldn’t we have gotten an actual curveball and have it be someone entirely new - or not-so-new, if it had to be an existing Time Lord - instead of who the fandom called from the moment Missy appeared?) (Okay, also slightly upset that the Doctor and Master kissed in a canon episode, and it was while one of them was female. Dammit.)

Oh well. At least Missy continued in the fine tradition of the Master fucking with the Doctor’s head while he believes he’s someone else.

And Clara. Welp. There was Clara.

Yeah, that’s all I’m saying for now. Don’t really want to do my issues with plot-type things until I see the next episode.
