So, for various reasons, I have just now finished listening to Gallifrey series 6. (I will admit, Narvin being in Dark Eyes 3, and Gallifrey 7 coming out in February (with AAAAACE!) had a lot to do with this.)
Yeah, okay, I just about died.
But first.
I’m sad that this part of Gallifrey’s over with. This was one of the very first Big Finish audios I listened to (way back in December 2005 goes my first post on it, my goodness, it’s been a long time), and it’s still the line nearest and dearest to my heart. This Leela and this Romana are the definitive Leela and Romana in my mind, the ones I think of when first when either of them are brought up. I can’t wait to see how Trey and Ace get on, but man, will I miss Leela and Romana’s friendship.
Speaking of, I ended up really loving Trey. I love Romana II, but I’m looking forward to seeing her as the main Romana in Intervention Earth. I’ve actually considered getting Luna Romana because she’s in it, and the Companion Chronicles is the one branch of BF that I can’t get into. I do rather like the fakeout they attempted, though, with the Watcher-like shadow and Trey quoting that "the moment has been prepared for." Ugh, and I almost forgot Romana saying that "One day, [she] may come back. Yes, one day."
So, there’s a part in the extras where they’re talking about an attraction between Leela and Narvin and I’m like. ????? Look, I love Leela and Narvin’s relationship, but how so wrong, writers?!? Romana/Narvin is so much one of my main Doctor Who otps, it’s not even funny at this point. “I don’t think Gallifrey can go on without Romana. I don’t think I can go on without Romana” is an actual line in an actual audio. No one will ever convince me that Narvin isn’t madly in love with Romana, especially after his actions in Ascension.
Which. Okay guys, I was not at all spoiled for the ending of Ascension, but what Narvin did at the end there was something I have thought true all along. So then it happened and I was like, wait, what? Didn’t we know he did thi--oooh. Huh. So I headcanoned something as true before I actually heard it become canon. Which quite amazes me, really.
But he did it for Romana! He knew it could destroy the universe, and he did it anyway. Holy fuck, Narvin! I was flailing so hard during his scene with Leela, when he determines he has to do it! Coordinator Narvin of the CIA basically went, fuck you Time, I’m saving Romana! (But then it turns out Romana did not actually need saving and Narvin is so fucked. Yup, that is so Narvin.)
NARVIN. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. YOU ARE MY FAVORITE BIG FINISH CHARACTER EVER.
