So. I picked pears the last time I was at Sugar Run. There were so many beautiful ones, and I knew Zadnyl and Tim wanted some, so I brought home probably more than I needed!
Zadnyl and Tim took about 1/2 of those I brought. I had sorted them into the yellow ones and the green ones and put them in the root cellar for canning at another time.
Last Wednesday I thought I'd take a bag for the Garden Club to snack on, and I found that the GREEN ones were yellow, so I decided I'd better do some canning this weekend.
Today, I canned 9 pounds into 10 pint jars, using a spiced pears recipe from the Joy of Cooking cookbook. And, I used less than 1/2 of the pears on hand! So, tomorrow I plan on canning the rest of the pears, without the extra spices and in a light syrup. I'm hoping Anzovin and Sundart will take some of them off my hands when they visit NY State. What say you?? Does canned pears sound good?
