My latest obsession
Lately I somehow just can't get enough of Stuarda, whether sung by Gruberova, Caballe or Mosuc. I find them all fascinating in their own way.
Gruberova was originally the designated Stuarda for this Zürich production, but then she went all diva-licious with OZ management and quit. Angeles Blancas jumped in to save the day. Now this role is shared by Blancas and Mosuc. Although Blancas isn't all that coloratura-spectacular, I prefer her Stuarda slightly more than Mosuc's, because her charaterization is more natural, whereas Mosuc's seems a bit to mannered (but all those high notes are FUN, aren't they?).
Anyway, no matter whether it's Mosuc or Blancas (with Calleja, Kaufmann or Florez as Leicester, Kasarova, D'Intino or Tro Santafe as Elisabetta), I just hope OZ would decide to make a DVD of this Stuarda production soon.
