Awww, that was great! I feel bad for Gene's glorious loafers *eg* but I think he got fairly compensated by the sight of Sam wriggling about on his bed trying to shove his trousers down *dies at little at the mental image*
What really sold it, of course, what the utterly blokey denial and glaring matches and of course even when disgustingly ill Sam is such a smug, cheeky tart, lol.
Great story! Hope you're posting this at lifein1973, yes? *poke*
This was so sweet, and the visual of Sammy squirming around trying to get his trousers off...guhhhh. Sick Sam is adorable in his misery.
Two things bothered me, though. 1. Sam didn't rinse his mouth after he vomited the first time and Gene didn't think to get him to do it, either. When I throw up, that is the *first thing* on my mind. (I'm assuming he rinsed the second time b/c he was in the bathroom.)
2. Sam didn't know what the bucket was for? Really? Absolutely did not believe that. His mum would have been sitting up w/ him all night patting his back and holding the bucket under him, don't you think? I highly doubt Mrs. Tyler would have let her son spend the night bent over the loo.
aw glad you found it sweet, and Sam squirming was a visual that just got stuck in my head *g* so I had to type it in ;)
As for the issues:
1. It might have been slightly OOC but I figured Sam was feeling a bit too shaky on his feet the first time to get himself to the sink (and probably unwilling to push past an irate Gene for that matter). Gene has good intentions (getting Sam into bed, giving him tea) but I don't think it would occur to him to get a glass of water especially when Sam is lying on the floor.
2. I always thought of Sam being too finicky to vomit in a bucket. I know my little sister always hated the idea of having to well... hold her vomit and when she was little my mum used to spend hours with her in the bathroom rubbing her back as she leaned over into the loo. I thought Sam might have been the same until he was old enough to get himself to the loo.
Well, honestly, the first time I ever heard of using a bucket by the bedside I was an adult, and I thought it was brilliant! My mother always sat in the bathroom with me just like with your little sister, so I could see Sam not really understanding the bucket thing. :)
I thought this was really cute, despite the wonder of why Sam didn't understand the bucket. Still, it's possible that he might not know of it because maybe Sam doesn't get sick like that often, maybe? Or maybe he's never used a bucket before; it could happen.
Still, I love the dialogue between them and how they hint to each other of what they'd really like to do. ;) Very cute!
