Chapter 1: The Beginning of Repose, 14.06-14.28%
Madeleine puts Fantine in the infirmary that he has in his house. She wakes up the next day to find Madeleine near her bed, praying and waiting for her to wake up. He's found out all the details of her story. That evening Javert writes a letter, and next morning he sends it to Monsieur le Prefet of Police. Madeleine sends the Thenardiers 300 francs and asks them to send Cosette, but they ask for more. Madeleine sends more, but they still don't give up Cosette. Fantine is very happy about the prospect of seeing Cosette, but her illness is getting worse, and the doctor says she hasn't got long. The Thenardiers continue to ask for more money before they'll send Cosette. Madeleine resolves to send someone or go himself soon.

Chapter 2: How Jean may become Champ, 14.28-14.84%
Madeleine's in his study, getting ready to leave for Montfermeil if he needs to, when Javert comes to see him. Javert asks to be dismissed, because he wrongfully accused Madeleine of being Jean Valjean, in his letter to the Prefecture of Police. He explains why he thought so, but that he now knows he was wrong, because the real Valjean has been arrested. This guy called Champmathieu stole some apples, and then in jail someone "recognised" him from Toulon as Jean Valjean. It was decided that Valjean must have taken his mother's maiden name (Mathieu) on getting out of jail, and that Jean had been corrupted into Champ. Two other prisoners from Toulon confirm that Champmathieu is Valjean, and Javert's been to check for himself as well. Champmathieu denies it (you'd expect that of a con) but he's definitely Valjean. He'll get a life sentence. Madeleine pretends not to be interested, but asks when the trial is. Javert reminds Madeleine that he wants dismissed, but Madeleine refuses.
