calledinvain, whose stories I love very much. Happy White Day! This is actually really, really rushed, so I am probably going to revamp this later and re-gift it to you. Warnings of OOC, and I’m really sorry, this originally was a really great idea when it first formed in my head, but it just got off track...(brain is dying on me) Just...ignore me here, haha.
He’d been staring at the television for the past hour. Only when Nino walks in front of his line of vision does he jerk back into reality and glance at the clock. It’s 11:00. Ten more minutes until Room of King starts.
It’s at that time that Aiba bounces into the room and holds up packages that his parents had mailed over to the rest of the band, and literally bounces off the wall. Well, in this case, bouncing in Jun’s vision.
“Ne, Jun! Look what my parents got you!” Aiba starts.
“Aiba,” Jun interrupts, “You’re standing in front of the TV.”
“Oh, come on, Jun!” Aiba pouted. “My parents wanted you to have this really, really badly. It’s thanks for taking care of me for all these years,” Aiba sniffed. “My parents just wanted to thank youuuuuu! Why are you so mean to meeeeeeeee?”
“GREAT Jun, you just made him cry. NOW what are we going to do? We haven’t gotten our packages yet-OW!” Nino glares at Sho. (In the background, Aiba is wailing, “Oh-chaaaaaaaan, Jun-chan is being mean to meeeeeeeee”) “What’d you hit me for?!”
Jun rolls his eyes. “Aiba, ” he says. “If I say I’ll look at it, will you leave me alone for an hour, at least?”
Aiba’s sniffling quiets down. Then, “Maybe,” he says finally.
Jun immediately digs in to his given package and tears into a fish sausage. “It’s really good,” he mumbles. “Tell your parents thanks.”
Aiba’s sniffling and tears immediately stop, and burst into a bright smile. “Okay!”
Jun sighs and turns back to the TV. Room of King finally starts, and he blocks the rest of Arashi out from his mind and sight, and his eyes are filled with her.
Suzuki Anne -- possibly one of the cutest people with a wickedly weird sense of humour. Jun first met her on the set of Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo III back in 2001. He was still young back then, but she was even younger. He wasn’t really sure of his feelings about her at the time, so he had brushed it off as mere attraction.
But as the years passed, not only could he not forget about her, but it feels like he’s fallen in love with her even more, if possible.
He feels weight shift to one side of the sofa and snaps his head up to look into the face of Nino.
“If you like her that much,” Nino says softly, “Just ask her out.”
Jun turns his head away from Nino in embarrassment. “I don’t...like her,” he insists. “I truly think the drama is good.”
Nino smiles mysteriously and pats Jun on the shoulder. “Right,” Nino says condescendingly. “Whatever you say.”
And he leaves Jun alone - permanently - after that.
The next day Nino is all smiles at Jun. Jun is skeptical about the meaning of his suspicious behaviour. All his questions get answered when his cell phone suddenly rings, and an unknown number arouses his attention. Shooting narrowing eyes at Nino, whose smile has somehow gotten bigger, he hesitantly answers his phone.
“Hello?”
“Matsumoto-kun? Hi! Sorry to bother you during your work, but I just wanted to call to confirm the time of our dinner tonight...?” It’s Suzuki Anne, and Jun doesn’t remember ever giving his number to her after he’s changed it. Then everything clicks in his mind. Nino. He’s been smiling all day. It must be him.
He puts on his scariest face and he motions to Nino that they need to talk, now.
“Matsumoto-kun?” Shit, Jun thinks, he’s forgotten that she was still on the line. “If you’re busy at the moment, I can call back later...?”
“Uh, no, I’m not busy busy at the moment, just on break. Dinner tonight? I finish work at 8, so, uh, which restaurant do you want to go to?”
He can hear her smile on the other end, and somehow, even without seeing her, Jun can feel his heart swell and pound faster.
“Um, if you don’t mind, I’d like to go try Kihachi...the one in Kanagawa, have you heard of that restaurant? I’m a fan of Italian cooking, and my friends have recommended that place to me, so...”
“Italian? Sure, I’m okay with it. That’s great, so I’ll meet you at Kihachi at 8? I have to get back to work now, so do you mind making a reservation...?”
“Sure! So I’ll see you then?”
“Alright. See you.”
“Bye!”
“Bye.”
Jun finishes his phone call and immediately heads over to Nino. He pulls him by the shirt collar and drags him out into the hall. “You. We need to talk.”
Nino preens and lets himself be dragged outside.
“YOU...thank you.” Jun hangs his head. “To be honest I wouldn’t have been able to talk to her.” Jun pauses. “Funny, eh? The great Matsumoto Jun, not being able to ask a girl out.”
Nino pats his head sympathetically. “We all have those days. You just have them more than the rest of us do.” Jun looks up at him. Nino waggles his eyebrows suggestively before heading back inside the dressing room. Jun takes a while for the comment to process before rushing in and giving Nino a well-deserved noogie.
As much of a bastard Nino is, it’s thanks to him that he’s able to look forward to tonight’s dinner date.
Jun smiles extra brightly for the rest of his photo shoots that day.
