THE BORGIAS, SEASON ONE (2011)
There were alot of times when I actually wanted to give up on this show, but for Holly Grainger and François Arnaud, I will keep watching. The series started off with a promising pilot episode, slowed down, hit a road block, and picked up a little just before the finale. It was a perfect parting scene, as I think it was filmed before a second season was confirmed, but also paints a picture of what we should expect from them next year. My favourite character is obviously Lucrezia. Her relationship with Cesare is beautiful, she's grown up into this confident, strong woman but with him she's still the carefree, idealist sister and no matter what happens, they really do love each other. She'll never find a husband as perfect as Cesare because that's what she bases her love on. My favourite non-Lucrezia/Cesare scene is probably something with Juan... his face when he see the portrait, and his refusal to marry unless it was a proper princess. I would have liked to have seen more of Vanozza, or some Vanozza/Giulia resolution. I still don't understand how a courtesan is forbidden from a wedding, yet no one complains when the Pope brings a mistress with him? The Ursula plot was also weak, mainly because I don't think there is any historical reference, and it just seems rather pointless. She ends up a nun, and apart from killing her husband and learning some new sword moves, Cesare hasn't changed in any way.
