The sound of a phone ringing cut through the the early morning silence like knife as it sang and buzzed all over the nightstand table it had been placed on the previous night. In an attempt to find the contraption and silence it before it did any further damage, an arm appeared from under the covers and fumbled around the table for a few minutes before successfully capturing the dancing phone and pulling it under the covers.
“What do you want?” Kamenashi Kazuya, twenty-six and the phone's owner, asked in groggy annoyance as he held the phone up to his ear.
“Good morning to you too Kame. Did I wake you up? Or...am I interrupting?”
“Shut it Tatsuya, it's too early for this.” Kame grumbled quietly into the phone as he sat up and got up. He made sure that the other figure in bed next to him was still sleeping soundly before slipping out into the living room.
“Ooh, I see why people are afraid to bother you in the morning. Such a foul mood.” Tatsuya teased lightly with a chuckle. Kame rolled his eyes and sat down on the couch.
“And yet that doesn't stop you from calling me at six in the morning.”
“Nope, not in the least.” Tatsuya agreed.
Kame looked out the large bay window as Tatsuya continued talking. The holidays had rolled around more quickly than he had anticipated and like every year, he was anything but ready for them. He, like most of his friends, didn't really celebrate Christmas; but the tradition of gift giving, going out to fancy restaurants and lights had stuck. Not to mention the time that would normally be spent for Christmas would be spent getting ready for New Years. So all in all the holidays was a nice time to relax and celebrate in general. Something Kame could get on board with. Especially going out to restaurants. It was the one time of year he looked forward to as he was guaranteed to get to try at least a handful of new restaurants all thanks to a certain food critic still sleeping in his bedroom.
“Are you even listening to me Kame?” Tatsuya questioned after a few minutes. Kame blinked a couple times as if clear in the haze.
“Of course I have been.” He lied outright, knowing Tatsuya knew him better than to believe him but it was worth a shot anyway.
“...mhmmmm….. And what was I asking you?”
“Something about what I'm getting Jin and if we were going out to any restaurants this year.” Kame replied. Again, a lie.
“...you're lucky Kame.” Tatsuya said after a pause. Kame blew out a sigh of relief. He found it hard to believe that was exactly what his friend had asked him but it had been apparently close enough to it to pass.
“Well…?”
“I have no idea. Jin is always hard to shop for you know that.” Kame sighed. It was a well known fact between the two that Kame struggled with this every year. “As for restaurants, I think there are a few lined up, but nothing is concrete.”
“Why not just get him a gift card?” Tatsuya suggested casually. Kame scowled into the phone a bit.
“That's real personable.”
“It's just a thought. There's always that option but knowing you, you'd sooner get him something he already has first.” Tatsuya laughed.
“That's only because the last time you suggested that for his birthday, you guys tried to get me drunk on purpose. Not to mention the whole thing backfired.” Kame snapped as he reminded his friend of the previous events.
“True. You are horrible with your liquor.” Tatsuya agreed with a small chuckle.
“Ugh, I'll think of something on my own.” Kame shrugged, lowering his voice as he heard movement from the bedroom. He wasn't surprised that Jin would have woken up.
“Uh oh, did we wake a certain someone up?” Tatsuya asked, catching the quietness of Kame’s voice.
“Yea, and I’m going to tell him it's all your fault.”
“So mean Kame-chan. Why are you blaming me?” Tatsuya whined loudly into the phone.
“Because it's six in the morning Tatsuya and you're the only one who ‘would’ call at this hour.” Jin chimed in having taken the phone from Kame.
“Well aren't you the clever one Jin. Any progress on your little gift extraordinaire?”
“If you don't mind, I'm taking my turtle back to bed for awhile.” Jin answered as he winked at Kame, now sitting cross legged on the couch and smirking smugly. “I'll call you later.” Jin added.
“Fine~ but don't go buy anything without me there. You know you're hopeless when it comes to gifts oh great food critic.” Tatsuya chimed in as Jin rolled his eyes.
“Yeah yeah.” He grumbled and hung up before Tatsuya could get another word in. Jin tossed the phone back to Kame before giving the younger man a smirk.
“Couldn’t sleep anymore?” Kame asked curiously as he set the phone back down on the coffee table.
“You weren’t there when I woke up,” Jin admitted, “I suppose Tatsuya was to blame.”
“You know it.” Kame laughed as he stood and snaked his arms around Jin’s waist and pressed up closer to him. “But it’s far too early to be up and moving about yet.” He teased as Jin pulled him in closer.
“Are you suggesting something?” Jin asked, his interest now piqued.
“I’m suggesting a nap. Are you interested?” Kame asked. Jin paused for a moment as if thinking about it.
“I could be up for more sleep actually….but leave the phone out here. I don’t need Tatsuya calling again, though I have no doubt he’ll try.”

It was well into the afternoon when Jin stepped out of the elevator and into the main hallway of Fine Cuisine Magazines’s headquarters and made his way towards the back offices. After their rather rude awakening, Jin had taken Kame back to bed and had completely passed out. It had been nice to just sleep in though admittedly. The holidays were always hard on Jin with year end reviews to be done and articles to be written up. In short, it was the one time of the year Jin hated his job. Sure, the food was generally exquisite and Jin enjoyed taking Kame with him, but there was always one or two restaurants that didn’t pass and naturally, it was Jin’s job to tell them so. He’d closed several restaurants as a result of his reviews.
“You’re late.” Tomohisa Yamashita, magazine president and Jin’s best friend, called loudly with a feigned tone of anger in his voice as he spun around in his desk chair to greet the critic. Jin just waved the comment off as he sat down in one of the empty chairs in the spacious office.
“Just be glad I’m here at all,” Jin snapped back lightly with a shrug, “I don’t see why I have to come into the office, I haven’t even done an official review yet.”
“Because if everyone else has to come in for the holidays, then you should also join in their suffering.” Pi answered casually with a shrug of his own. Jin snorted.
“Ha! I hardly call catered lunch ‘suffering’ Pi.” Jin pointed out. “You just wanted to call me in so I would buy everyone lunch again this year didn’t you?”
“That’s for me to know and you to never find out.” Pi shot back defiantly as he turned his nose up at Jin as the critic laughed, beside himself.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever Pi.” Jin waved him off, “Enjoy the food. I’ll be in my office for a bit.” Jin said as he stood. Pi waved after him with a smug smirk.
“Figure out anything to get for Kame yet?” Pi asked.
“Besides taking him out to my reviews? I have a few things in mind.” Jin admitted, smiling at the mention of Kame, “I have Tatsuya giving me a hand with a few things.”
“Tatsuya huh? Well don’t let him drain your wallet this year. You know how he gets with gift giving.” Pi reminded. How could Jin forget? Tatsuya Ueda, Kame’s best friend, had always been a notoriously generous gifter, especially during the holidays.
“Don’t worry, he’s on a short leash this year.” Jin laughed, remembering the warning he’d given Tatsuya when he’d asked for the older man’s help at the start of December. “But when it comes to Kame, you know I’ll get him anything.”
“You spoil the kid too much sometimes Jin I swear.” Pi sighed, but gave his friend a smile.
“I don’t mind during the holidays,” Jin shrugged, “Consider it my way of apologizing for how busy I get at this time of year. It’s a win-win really. I get all my reviews and articles done and he gets extravagant meals he’d normally not and whatever he wants for Christmas. Not to mention it’s a nice reprieve from his crazy go-go attitude and New Years prepping.” Jin added as Pi laughed.
“True enough. The kid sure does like to prepare for New Years. If only I had someone as thorough as Kame.” Pi sighed heavily to which Jin just glared at the other.
“Keep dreaming Pi, Kame’s officially off the market...I’m leaving now.”
“Aww Jin, you’re no fun!” Pi whined after Jin’s fleeting back.
“Get back to work Pi!” Jin yelled over his shoulder as he gave Pi a wave. Pi shook his head with a small chuckle and stretched lazily. Deciding to put off his work a bit longer, Pi stood and went to join the others in the conference room where the food had been set up and the festivities were taking place. Might as well enjoy himself before telling everyone they might be here for Christmas.

“The next time you decide to call, make sure it’s not so god freaking early in the morning.” Kame snapped with mild annoyance as he joined Tatsuya at the table the older man been seated at.
“Well for starters, you’re late. secondly, you were always an early riser so quit your whining.” Tatsuya laughed, waving Kame’s annoyances off. Kame knew he was right but it was the principle of the thing, though his nap with Jin had been a pleasant enough result of Tatsuya’s morning call.
“Whatever, just leave a message next time will ya?” Kame sighed and ordered something to eat with the waiter that had approached them.
“Fine, I’ll take it into consideration.”Tatsuya agreed with a smirk and nod of his head. “Anyway, out shopping are we?”
“More or less.” Kame shrugged. “Just out getting some things for Christmas.” He explained further.
“I thought you guys always went out on Christmas?” Tatsuya asked as he cocked his head to the side.
“We do, but Jin wanted to stay home this year. I’m not going to complain about that. We don’t usually have that much time together during the holiday months, but with me finished with school finally and Jin pushing his reviews before or after Christmas, we got lucky and found some time.”
“How romantic of you.” Tatsuya teased lightly, “I suppose then your gift is you?”
“Hardly.” kame answered dryly as he glared at his friend. “I plan on cooking for him.”
“Well now, that’s rather ‘wifely’ of you. Can you even cook?”
“Jin never complains, and half the time he prefers my cooking to going out anyway.” Kame shot back with a huff. “And of course I can cook. You should know, your mom taught me afterall.”
“Eh, I never paid attention to her lessons you know that.” Tatsuya answered.
“And yet somehow you’ve been able to manage all this time….shocking.” Kame got in, his voice teasing and full of dry sarcasm.
“Yeah yeah, laugh it up home ec boy. You should just be lucky I didn’t take cooking lessons with you. I’d cook you under the table any day.”
“Idiot, whatever you say.” Kame scoffed as the waiter returned with their food.
“Well here’s to the end of the year and that start of another.” Tatsuya said, raising his fork in a toasting gesture as he flashed Kame a smirk.
“You make me feel like I’ve agreed to something I’m going to regret when you smirk at me like that.” Kame said hesitantly but raised his fork in a similar gesture all the same.
“It hurts me to hear you have such little faith in me Kame.” Tatsuya whined with a feigned tone of hurt as he frowned at kame.
“Yeah, well that’s what happens when your best friend has a trickster personality Tat-chan.” Kame replied, shaking his head.
“You wouldn’t have me any other way and you know it, idiot.” Tatsuya laughed, clearly not insulted by the comment in the least. Kame didn’t expect him to be actually.
“Yeah, yeah.” Kame laughed quietly to himself as they fell into casual conversation.

Kame came home to find Jin asleep at his desk with his head down on the keyboard, and papers sprawled out all around him on the desk. Taking in the precious scene for a few silent moments, Kame moved to the couch and retrieved the blanket hanging off the back of it. Kame returned to the office and draped it over Jin’s back. He’d hate for the older man to catch a cold; despite really wanting him on the couch or in their bed he couldn’t bring himself to wake the older man.
“You’re home late.” Jin mumbled as Kame turned to sneak back out of the office. He sat up and rubbed his eyes a bit as he looked in Kame’s direction. Kame smiled fondly at Jin before moving back to the older man.
“You didn’t have to wake up for me.” Kame cooed gently as he wrapped his arms around Jin’s neck and placed a kiss on his cheek. “But since you’re up, you should really be sleeping in bed or on the couch if you’re still sleepy. Both are far more comfortable than being hunched over your desk. Besides, you’ve made quite a mess of things as it is.” Kame observed with a small chuckle, kissing Jin again. Jin just smiled and stretched.
“Nah, I’m up. I wasn’t all that asleep anyway. I heard the door open.” Jin explained. “I can’t sleep unless I’m with you. You know that.”
“I know but if you are going to sleep, do it in bed next time okay? You know I’ll always come and join you.”
“Hmmmm…” Jin mused, “Out shopping?”
“Yeah and I went to meet Tatsuya.” Kame explained, surprised Jin had deduced even that, but he supposed if the older man heard the door open then he probably had heard the sound of Kame’s many shopping bags rustling as he entered the apartment.
“Oh? And what did he want?” Jin asked with genuine curiosity. Kame shrugged.
“Nothing too important. Just a little conversation, a little teasing at my expense, inquiring what I would get you for Christmas and which restaurants you were going to review this season. You know, the usual.” Kame explained.
“What are you getting me for Christmas?” Jin asked with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“That’s what you got out of all of that?” Kame snorted with amusement, “I’m not telling you. You’ll just have to wait.” Kame scolded, giving Jin a light slap on the arm.
“Well regardless, I’m perfectly happy just spending Christmas with you.” Jin admitted aloud with a smirk.
“Hmmmm….likewise. It’s been too long since we’ve had a holiday together.” Kame admitted, giving Jin his own smile.
“It certainly has been awhile.” Jin agreed with a nod of his head. Standing, Jin picked Kame up princess style and headed out of the office.
“Jin! Put me down!” Kame whined loudly as he squirmed in Jin’s grasp, but Jin kept a firm hold on him.
“Nice try but I like you in this pose.” Jin teased.
“I can walk on my own, you.”
“I know, but you don’t need to walk to bedroom so just give up.” Jin teased again as he pushed open the door to their bedroom and dropped Kame down gently on the bed.
“Jin~ you know I have stuff to do for New Years.” Kame tried again with a whine but Jin just shook his head.
“That’s two weeks away. You have plenty of time.” Jin reminded shaking his head, to Kame’s mild annoyance as he pouted.
“No pouting now,” Jin chuckled, kissing Kame’s forehead. “I promise I’ll help you with all the New Years preparations later. For now, just give yourself to me.”
“You make it sound so dirty when you say things like that.” Kame answered, but took Jin up on his offer as he threw his arms around the older man’s neck. “But if you promise, I’ll take you up on your offer.”
“Fair enough, it’s a deal.” Jin agreed as he and Kame shared a heated kiss.
“I hate it when you agree with me.” Kame grumbled under his voice and through the heated kisses Jin was giving him. Jin chuckled in satisfaction as he pushed Kame down into the mattress.
“I know.”

“Remind me again why I’m up so early in the morning?” Jin asked groggily as he walked into the living room being pulled by an overly excited Kame.
“Don’t give me that.” Kame scowled slightly at Jin, but continued pulling on the older man’s hand just the same. “It’s Christmas of course, you know it’s tradition to get up early for presents.” Kame explained with a child like air of excitement about him. Jin just laughed as he let Kame pull him to the couch and push him down into a seated position.
“That’s just supposed be for children Kame,” Jin corrected, recalling the scenes of families gathered around the christmas tree and children opening presents in the commercials he’d seen on the TV lately. “At least let me have some coffee before you go all crazy with the gift opening.” He said as he stood and moved into the kitchen for some much needed caffeine. The warmth of the mug and the liquid running down his throat as he took his first sips a much needed necessity for how cold it had gotten over night. Jin didn’t think it possible but he was contemplating getting socks and warmer clothes on as well. At least it wasn’t snowing on top of the chilly temperatures. He was never one known to be fond of the white fluffy substance that blanketed the Hokkaido region like a white ocean every winter.
“Fine, but hurry up.” Kame whined impatiently much to Jin’s amusement. Grabbing another mug for the younger man, Jin returned back to the couch and sat down as Kame began reaching for the wrapped gifts.
“Don’t go too crazy now,” Jin laughed as he watched Kame settle in and start opening gifts. One after another were opened and left Kame all the more impressed with each gift. From a diamond charm bracelet to a brand new car currently sitting in their second parking spot in the garage below them, Kame couldn’t believe at the lengths Jin had gone too to make him happy.
“You know you spoil me too much Jin.” Kame said after all the gifts were opened and he crawled back to the couch and pulled himself onto Jin’s lap. “This is all way too much.” He added with a smile.
“Spoiling you for the holidays is alright.” Jin said as he continued laughing, throwing an arm loosely around Kame’s hips. “Besides, making you happy is all that matters to me. not to mention spending time with you.”
“Hmmmm…..well thank you. You know I love all of your gifts. I’m sorry my gifts are so ordinary.” Kame mumbled, but Jin only smirked.
“You know all I ever want is to spend time with you. Whatever you give me is just an added bonus to having you around.” Jin admitted plainly, giving Kame a quick kiss before scowling slightly at him.
“Gifts? You’ve only given me the one. Did I miss one?” He asked curiously, certain he’d heard the younger correctly. Kame blushed sheepishly for a moment before pointing behind Jin towards the kitchen. Jin turned and was shocked to see the large feast currently sitting on the table behind them. He’d been so focused on getting coffee in his sleep addled haze that he’d completely missed the large spread on the dining table or the wonderful smell of home cooked breakfast now filling his nostrils.
“You did all that? Seriously?” Jin asked with amazement in his tone as he eyed Kame. The younger man nodded with a bright smile on his face.
“You were so out of it last night, that it was easy to get most of it done last night, but I was up easy this morning.”
“That would explain why your side of the bed went cold this morning.” Jin concluded as Kame gave him another smile.
“Would you have rather gone out for Christmas?” Kame quickly asked, his expression turning anxious. “I know we usually go out on Christmas.”
Jin smirked and shook his head as he ruffled Kame’s hair.
“This is the best Christmas ever. We need to do this more often.” Jin quickly answered, restoring Kame’s confidence as he leaned his forehead against Kame’s. Kame smiled and nodded.
“I think that can be arranged.”
