Blast from the past

Going through some files, I came up with this illustration of my character Crazy Quilt, one of the last major bits of art I did to desperately try and promote Complex City during the final days when it became clear the end was near. This was done for my second and final SPX convention (cripes I lost a ton of money on that show, though it was fun travelling with tikilovegod ), as the cover for one of those little xeroxed sketch/promo zines, imaginatively entitled Stuff. It's india ink with Prismacolor markers for the gray tones. Overall, I like it: the nose is too well-defined given that he's wearing a burlap-type mask, but the cropping was deliberately 'artsy,' and there were little clues about the character (such as the splitting fingernails) that I never got around to exploring -- maybe someday the Quilt will return in another medium. I don't think I ever posted this artwork back on the old CC website, so might as well give it some air here. Click for bigger version, and Happy Monday. J
