OMG! I was sooooo excited when the box was dropped off at my desk!!!!
bertha79 finished my quilt! It's so, so fantastic!!!
eeeeeeeeee!!!!!!
Hey,
la_connaisance! Does that black shirt on the top row look familiar?!!? [It was her ex-boyfriend's. He threw it out when he graduated, and she made him get it out of the trash and give it to me.] How about that green shirt on the left side?!!? hee!
My coworkers helped me hold it up, so I could take pictures. They were all so admiring, even the men.
Some close ups:
Hey,
vespurrs! Does that red shirt look familiar??? HA!
Hey,
surpriseparty! Does that yellow shirt look familiar?!?!? [It's our high school P.E. uniform, LOL.]
The sailing shirt was my uncle's. He was big into sailing. The blue shirt is from a program I worked at the Beloit College Museums in spring 1987. I was wearing that shirt when my first boyfriend told me he loved me. I was also wearing it when we did our pledge kidnapping and when we did our pledge history tour. [These events were all on Saturdays, and the program was several Saturdays in a row, so I was always wearing it.]
She got my Mariah shirts and my work related shirts in there -- both museums and publishing!
---
The top row is mostly college-related shirts. Beloit College Folk and Blues festival... Beloit College Museums... Tink's "I is a college student" shirt... a shirt from
vespurrs' dig... 2 little pieces of a pair of boxer shorts I wore in college [not as undies, boxers were in for girls to wear as shorts] that have the Beloit logo and turtle on them.
The second row is somewhat random -- a shirt from working at
la_connaisance's nature center... a shirt from my sister's undergrad days... a shirt from a museum where I worked... a shirt from
la_connaisance's trip to Florida.
The third row is family and travel adventures -- my water rec uniform shirt from when I worked for the National Park Service, my uncle's shirt, a shirt I always think of as my Delta shirt even though it's a museum shirt [if only I could have found my DTP Pool Party shirt! It said, "We give mouth to mouth"], a sweatshirt from my internship at the Smithsonian [It says Rehoboth Beach on it -- I had it custom made when we were there. I looked and looked and looked for my Smithsonian shirt. Since I am packing up to leave and have not found it, I am 100% sure it is lost. I am sad.]...a sweatshirt with my dad's business logo on it.
Then the Mariah row -- only one of those T-shirts was purchased by me, btw. The others were gifts and never worn. And then I wore that Rainbow shirt once, washed it in cold, and it bled. So much for my $25 T-shirt.
In the midst of Mariah, a small piece of a quilt my grandmother had at our Wisconsin house when I was a little girl. I slept under that quilt for a lot of my childhood. It was hard to cut a piece out, but guess what. That quilt was on my bed in Delta and one of our Deltas borrowed my room to have sex with her visiting-from-out-of-town boyfriend, and kicked and thrashed and shredded the lining. So it's not usable as a blanket any more anyway.
And the bottom row is mainly work-related, including my volleyball championship T-shirt, with Walk & Roll Chicago in the middle of it.
Now... once I move to my new home, I will have to figure out a way to hang it up on the wall so I can display it!
OMG, this is soooo awesome. All my memories, out of the box, and put in a usable, displayable format. I'm listening to this song and looking at the pictures I just took at work, and I just want to cry. It is truly a beautiful day.
I am so so glad we did this trade B! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
