When Kouta was little he would come home to find his grandfather sitting in front of the chair they had placed in front of the window.
He would tell how his day had been and his grandfather would smile and pat his head. It had been their moment.
Now, 15 years later, he stepped into the burned remains of his elderly home looking at the place the window once had been.
His grandfather smiled at him and asked, “how was your day Kou-chan?”
“Your memorial service was really pretty,” Kouta answered.
His grandfather smiled as he disappeared in thin air.

“Hasshi watch out!” Yuya screamed, knowing that it was already too late.
The spirit had already possessed the younger one’s body. An eerily smile lingered on his lips as he looked up to face his partner.
With shaking hands Yuya raised his gun, “l-leave him! I will shoot!”
“No you won’t, the kid will die too.”
When Yuya didn’t lower his gun the spirit continued. “If you want to kill me, go ahead, I’ll be glad to take him with me.”
Yuya closed his eyes and fired the bullet.
He was sure he saw Hasshi leaving the body first.

“This is your new partner.”
Yuya’s eyes met those of a lanky young man. The way he fiddled with his new gun indicated he was slightly nervous.
“I’m Yabu Kouta, nice to meet you.”
Kouta bow formally, Yuya merely nodded.
“So, he’s the new guy?” He asked Taisuke who nodded and added, “you’re pretty lucky he seems to have a knit for this job.”
“Oh really? If he’s really that talented he should know you shouldn’t play with your gun or else you might shoot yourself in the foot.”
It took Kouta only 2 seconds to put the gun away.

Kouta’s eyed widened, “but I can’t-I mean, I’m not-“
“You shoot. That’s how the rules are. No exceptions.”
Yuya marched away, leaving Kouta alone in the dining hall.
“He wasn’t always like that,” a voice spoke and Kouta looked up in surprise.
“This place always changes people, no one stays the same, you’ll find out sooner or later,” the small male continued. “Good luck being an exorcist, kid.”
“Ah! Hiro! There you are!” A voice called and both Kouta and the man looked up.
“We have to hurry! They have Kawai!”

Kouta found himself hanging out with Tottsu a lot. Despite being a few years older Tottsu had a lot in common with him and it was nice to be able to talk about things other than ghouls, ghosts, demons and other deceased creatures.
When Tottsu came dashing towards him Kouta had expected the older male to start about soccer, cars, girls or anything the like. Oh boy, was he wrong.
“Yu-Yuya! They have him too.”
It took Kouta a full 5 seconds to comprehend what Tottsu had said before he reached for his gun.
“I have to save him.”

There was one moment in which Yuya was able to redeem the control of his body. Kouta could see his eyes change and the voice that called out to him wasn’t a raspy and dark one like a demon’s.
“SHOOT YABU! NOW GOD DAMNIT!”
Kouta shook his head, he couldn’t. Yuya was his partner.
“I won’t! I won’t shoot!”
The demon laughed. Yuya was gone.
“If you’re not going to give in, I bet your partner will,” the demon cackled.
With a battle cry the demon left Yuya’s body and aimed for Kouta’s.
Thank God, Kouta remembered how to shoot.

“I still think you’re insane,” Yuya growled.
From the other side of the infirmary Kouta chuckled, followed by a dry cough.
“We could have both died you know. How’d you know that that demon was going to aim for you?”
“I didn’t,” Kouta replied cheekily. “I just wanted to buy some time, so I could think of a real plan.”
There was a low grunt coming from Yuya’s bed as the male turned around for his back to face his partner.
A smirk appeared on Kouta’s lips as he watched the other male roll around in bed.
“You’re welcome, Yuya.”
