Jun didn't like when they went on museum field trips. Their middle school had a strict buddy system. It meant someone had to stay by your side all day long. It was embarrassing to ask so he waited until someone asked him and he seemed always to get picked last.
But today when Sensei asked them to pair up, while Jun was looking dejectedly at his too-short pants and sneakers, Toma's hand slid, warm and sure, into his.
"Are you sure?" Jun whispered tentatively.
Toma nodded.
"I like the dinosaurs, is that okay?"
Toma's smile was blinding. "They're the best."

Yasu was in charge of drawing a class portrait for their Day School's open house. It was a big job. He wanted everyone to like it. He asked everyone how they wanted him to draw them but the answers were unhelpful. Maruyama said 'make me awesome'. Uchi-kun said 'like a rock star'. Ryo-chan had only said 'taller'.
When they unveiled it, there were no people. Only dinosaurs.
Yasu explained, "There's Maru, he's the T-Rex. Uchi is the triceratops with the spikes."
"Where am I?" Ryo-chan asked.
Yasu bumped his shoulder with a shy smile and pointed to the yellow brachiosaur.

"You're just saying that because I want it. Play with a stupid dinosaur," Yuuta-kun spat back and ambled away chatting with the toy.
Taka-kun angrily called after him, "You can't take that. It's his favorite. I'm telling!" but before he could run off, Toshiya-kun gestured for him to wait and chased after Yuuta.
He exchanged three dinosaurs for one tiger which he returned to Ken-chan with a kilometer-wide smile. "It's important to keep your favorites."
Ken-chan hugged his green plastic cat and nodded.

He would be a seven year old man and absolutely needed grown-up two-piece pajamas for it. None of this one-piece with footies business.
So when the time came to change into pajamas and Wata had footie PJs with dinosaurs, he was stunned.
Taipi laughed, "Wataru has baby pajamas!"
Wata was unfazed. "Dinosaurs can rip your throat out with their giant teeth, you know."
Taipi and Shota gulped nervously. Fumi-kun guffawed. Mitsu kind of wished he had worn his dinosaur PJs.
