Nine years and a couple of hours ago we were all very different people. At least within my group of friends LiveJournal seems to be a dying medium, but I thought I would reminisce today about that day nine years ago. I remember hearing the news while still asleep over my clock-radio alarm. V called me on my dorm phone and woke me up. He told me to turn on the television. I stood there watching smoke pour out of the World Trade Center.

Later that day I remember looking up into the endless blue sky and seeing fighter jets flying air patrols over Washington DC. I had gone to my first class that morning and we were told classes were canceled for the day. I went to the Johnson Center with some of my class mates, but nobody was quite sure what to do. I warned them to be careful for the next couple of days. In the electrical engineering program many, if not most, of my classmates were Muslim immigrants.

We were all different people back then.

I suppose in 50 years this will just be another day for mattress sales.
