"Argyll-Robertson pupil may be present in both tabes dorsalis and general paresis. The Argyll-Robertson pupil, caused by a midbrain lesion, constricts during accommodation (near vision) but does not react to light. This is also known as the "prostitute's pupil" because the prostitute accommodates but does not react, and is frequently infected with syphilis (tabes dorsalis occurs with syphilis).
