I just got done watching the series finale to Battlestar Galactica, and I have to say that it was a really good finale. I'm going to try my best to not ruin it for anyone that hasn't watched it yet, but the first half is extremely intense. and builds to a crescendo that seems to completely screw things up make you wonder if they were preparing for a tragic ending. That point falls about halfway through, so you know that there's more to be gained from all of this. Then we get to a reveal and I just have to say, that about two years ago, I called it. Jordan can back me up on this. After the giant middle finger that was last season's finale, we were let in that after all, they do love us.
Shit, I'm going to type some spoilers after the cut:
The Opera House dream plays out, and does so in a way that works. Roslin was one of my least favorite characters, mainly because of her failure to read this overly symbolic dream. She was redeemed.
Baltar got redeemed and bacame the man that he always could have been. There was always the chance that he was intending to do the right things, but all the while it was because it was the best thing for Gaius Baltar. The imaginary Six he'd been visualizing isn't completely explained, as neither is Caprica Six's imaginary Baltar, except to insinuate that they're Angels of God.
Kara isn't explained so much either, so we're left only to assume that her continued existence is an act of God, and her last act is to give Lee kick to go on and live his life and enjoy living it. It makes the episode where Lee is floating alone in space with a tear in his spacesuit more poignant.
Anders' farewell is sad for all the right reasons, just as Tori's story ends in the most satisfying way possible.
Ellen's character gets fleshed out and she gets her redeeming quality and it isn't as one of the final five Cylons, it's as the loving wife.
I keep trying to think if there are any dangling plot threads, but I just can't. Later, something might come to me, but right now, I'll just accept a frakkin good finale.
But still, I frakkin' called the ending.
