Iraq. Yay for you. I guess.

Watching the Iraqi election footage that came in yesterday basically just made me think one thing:

"Bush will be remembered as a great leader now."

Not a good or bad thing, just a fact. Barring something truly catastrophic derailing the whole situation in Iraq, it now looks like we WILL see a marginally stable and largely free Iraq within the next couple of years. History will look kindly upon Bush as a result. People don't think "pissed on the Bill of Rights" when they think of Lincoln; they think of how the Civil War helped bring about the end of slavery. People don't think "constantly tried to usurp judicial and legislative authority... also, concentration camps" when they think of FDR; they think "helped win WWII, save world."

And, in the future, people won't think "huge deficit spender, came across as dull-witted cretin, irresponsible war-monger" when they think of Bush. They'll think "guy that used the might of the US to bring freedom to the oppressed."

Somewhere, all of my liberal friends are crying.

I guess we'll have to see how everything comes along in the next few days/weeks.
