Yep. Another year older. I'm hoping this year will see me making money in a profession I can enjoy. I'm getting more heavily into crafts again. I spent several hours yesterday making a skirt pattern from a cross between an existing skirt and a store bought pattern. I also got fabric cut out and sewing started for that skirt. If it turns out well enough, I have 3 more skirts I plan to cut from the pattern. I'll show pictures once it is finished. It'll be nice to have some skirts again, as most everything from before child is pretty much gone even though I'm close to that size again. I'd yard saled them thinking I couldn't do it, and here I am only one size larger than before pregnancy. *pouts*
Well, I just have to make some new stuff to flatter my thinning figure. Next, I'll have to find a decent pants pattern I can modify in order to make some professional looking slacks. I've had a dickens of a time finding pants to fit properly. I do not like this trend for hip huggers, nor do I wish to spend a fortune at an upscale place that actually carries the appropriate style. I need to learn to draft my own patterns. Skirts are pretty decent to start learning with. I have the feeling that I need to brush up on my geometry and algebra.
I think I want to consider sewing as a career. I'm getting better at it, more inventive, better at modifying things. The biggest thing I need is drafting lessons. There's actually a class through Penn Foster online on sewing that covers drafting. Considering how much I've learned on my own, I think I could handle an online course. We've checked it out, reviews from outside sources, got the info packet, and still think it looks like a beneficial program. They even have alumni support. There are more jobs for sewers and crafters than I used to think. I've been researching the job market. It's a variable niche, but one i woulod enjoy. I mean really. Who wouldn't want to make decent money from what started as a hobby? Fabric is so much fun.
I'm also learning some new crochet patterns. I made a choker from one pattern. Turned out pretty good. I forgot to get a picture of it before giving it to my sister in law. But that's okay. I can make another. And maybe she'll get some people from her work to want one like it. Let her help drum up business.
