[#23 - mistakes] Bottled and Shelved

Notes: 200 words. Really random and sort of angsty/strange/inconclusive. I just felt like drabbling. For ranaeressea, because I believe that one can dabble in Gakuhai and still like the canon, too. :P The title is from Straylight Run's Mistakes We Knew We Were Making, which was the original thought behind this, though it doesn't really work anymore. >.>

They meet over tea for the first time in nearly a year. They've both been busy, but don't bother with apologies or excuses. It's enough to have this time, one quiet moment with a familiar face in a whirlwind of new things.
Memories of another lazy day, a muggy summer night in Taiwan, filter into the comfortable silence. One night, made warmer by their mingled breaths, skin against skin, finally falling spent and tired to messy sheets in Gackt's hotel room. They had a choice then, whether to make it more than almost-happenstance.
He knows that Gackt is thinking about that night, wondering what this conversation would be like if Hyde had chosen differently, picked the rockstar over his wife.
"Do you ever think," Gackt hesitates, "that you made a mistake?"
Megumi asks the same thing that night after they go to bed. She knows who he say today, knows about that muggy summer night, and though she hopes her faith isn't misplaced, she can't help but worry.
"No, never for a second" Hyde tells both of them, and pretends that he can't see the disappointment in Gackt's eyes, and that it doesn't hurt that Megumi even has to ask.

[*tilts head* On second thought, it reads like more Gakuhai than Hyde/Megumi to me, which is sort of the opposite of what I was going for... oops?]
