WTF Ben-Hur?

When I first sat down to watch Ben-Hur I thought, "It's an epic, it's a classic, at the very least it will better me culturally and at best it will be (to me) the epic it is to everyone else."  But in the end, it was even more disappointing than Quo Vadis.  Quo Vadis, at least, was disappointing throughout, but Ben-Hur had the build up to be amazing and ended up being flat.

Seriously?  They were healed when Jesus died?  Did His death send out a huge blast of healing power so that all the lepers in the area were restored?  I mean, if they'd waited until Sunday I would accept it, if only because I could then lump it in with the saints who were resurrected (Matt 27: 58).  But seriously?

And then Balthezar was all "it's the beginning."  No one knew that!  Seriously, it was a horrible, terrible time!  Even those closest to Him who had listened to everything He taught were all "denial!"  And there was none of this wonderous awe at the crucifixion -- it was horrified awe, a totally different thing.

At least references to God and Jesus were capitalized in the subtitles, that was something.

But it ended with the crosses on the hill!  There was totally another scene after that!  Gah!  I am not getting over this movie anytime soon.

Someone tell me the book is better, please!
