Power Rangers Guide
This is a guide to Power Rangers (specifically Mystic Force and Operation Overdrive) for people who are reading my HSM/PR crossover but know nothing about PR. Any PR fans who want to suggest an addition or offer to fill in holes that they see *cough*profiles*cough* is welcome to. Hopefully MF and OO will be the only seasons I go in depth about. *kicks wayward bunny* I am not making this crazier than necessary.
For pictures/more information on the characters I suggest heading over to Nak's Power Rangers. The information (while extensive) is not in a good format but he provides copious pictures of everyone and the website loads quicker than other PR sites.
Mystic Force
Power Rangers Mystic Force takes place in Briarwood, a California city on the edge of a forest. The city is full of urban legends regarding the forest, for good reason. The forest itself is a mystical gateway to another world. Twenty years ago there was a great battle in this world between the forces of good and darkness. The Master, the leader of the evil forces, was imprisoned by the Gatekeeper, Niella. Niella died sealing the gate, leaving behind a daughter, Clare. Niella’s sister is Udonna, the white sorceress. Udonna’s husband, Leanbow, was the leader of the good forces and was trapped with the Master. All of their fellow good warriors were killed (save for two who were lost) in the battle, and Udonna and Leanbow’s infant son, Bowen, was lost in the chaos.
Udonna spent the following two decades training her niece to be a sorceress and holding out hope for her son and husband. When the series actually begins the Gate cracks and many of the Master’s forces are freed, though the Master remains imprisoned. Four of Briarwood’s teens (Madison, Vida, Xander, and Chip) and one newcomer (Nick) become the Mystic Force Rangers. Eventually it is revealed that Nick is Udonna’s son. At this same time we learn that the Master’s champion, Koragg, is actually a brainwashed Leanbow.
The five rangers live in Briarwood during the series and work at Rock Porium, a record store. To get quickly to their base in the forest they travel through a tree across the street from the store.
*Madison Rocca: Blue Mystic Ranger -- water powers; Vida Rocca’s fraternal twin; likes making movies; dating Nick Russell; hates frogs
*Vida Rocca: Pink Mystic Ranger -- wind powers; DJ at the Rock Porium; hated pink when she first became a ranger but now loves it; has a caustic attitude but is nice when you get to know her
*Chip Thorn: Yellow Mystic Ranger -- lightning powers; always wanted to be a superhero (wore a cape to school through high school); goofy but endearing; super when he needs to be
*Xander Bly: Green Mystic Ranger -- plant powers; lothario of the group but still dedicated to the cause; always tried to order the others about at the Rock Porium and later became the manager of the store
*Nick Russell: Red Mystic Ranger -- fire powers; leader of the team; tends to be overemotional but not in a weepy sort of way
*Udonna: White Mystic Ranger -- snow powers; mentor to the rangers; very dedicated to her team; mothers everyone
*Daggeron: Solaris Knight -- sun powers; spent twenty years trapped as a frog in a cave (Madison kissed him after he saved her, freeing him); very by-the-book in his training methods
*Leanbow -- fire powers; brainwashed by the Master but held onto his sense of honor, preventing him from killing the rangers
*Clare -- Udonna’s niece; sorceress in training for most of the series but gains her full powers in the end; klutzy
*Necrolai -- Queen of the Vampires; served the Master; switched sides when it became clear that her daughter wasn’t going to be spared; resurrected Leanbow and Daggeron, thus becoming human; dating Toby; goes by “Nikki” now that she’s human
*Leelee -- current Queen of the Vampires; spoiled; abandoned evil in favor of a “normal” life; helped the rangers; works at the Rock Porium with them
*Calindor -- switched sides during the Great Battle; was trapped as a statue in a cave with Daggeron for 20 years; took up the job of the Master’s head servant after he was freed; eventually killed by Daggeron
*The Master -- head evil guy; wants to destroy the world; destroyed by the rangers
*Itasis -- one of the Ten Terrors (super evil bad guys); switched sides when she saw that the human concept of “courage” was superior to evil
*Matoombo -- one of the Ten Terrors; kind of stupid; loves music; switched sides after becoming friends with Vida
*Toby -- owner of the Rock Porium; kind of “out there;” good at puzzles; dating Necrolai
*Phineas -- a troblin (half troll, half goblin); friend of the rangers; saved baby Nick during the Battle by taking him to the human world; dating Leelee
*Fireheart -- the last dragon; Nick’s pet
*Snow Prince -- warrior of good; lives in a parallel dimension; protects Mystic Mother; taught Leanbow
*Mystic Mother -- formerly the witch Rita Repulsa (who terrorized the original rangers); was cleansed by Zordon’s wave and has become the defender of all good magic
Operation Overdrive
Power Rangers Operation Overdrive begins with adventurer/millionaire, Andrew Hartford. Andrew has unearthed the legendary Corona Aurora, thus releasing two ancient evil warriors, the brothers Moltor and Flurius. The crown’s guardian, Sentinel Knight, is weak after centuries remaining dormant and charges Andrew to find the crown’s five hidden jewels before the forces of evil do. Andrew uses his wealth to create a team of rangers and chooses four elite young people to seek out the jewels. Andrew plans on being the red ranger but his son, Mack, uses the tracker (morpher) first. Each of the rangers is given a genetic enhancement to help them in their quest. Besides Moltor and Flurius, many other evil forces are seeking the crown and jewels.
The team is eventually joined by Tyzonn, a Mercurian (an alien). When they first meet him he is working (against his will) for Moltor, who has turned him into a lizard monster. The rangers free him but Tyzonn refuses to join them, still carrying the psychological scars from his former (non-ranger) team’s death. Eventually he realizes he can help people better in a team. When the Fearcats show up he is especially enraged because they were the ones who killed his team, including his fiancée, Vella. It turns out Vella is alive and is reunited with Tyzonn at season’s end.
Throughout the season there are hints that something is up with Mack, something even he does not know. Eventually it is revealed that Mack is an android, made three years ago by the family-less Andrew. Mack rebels against his father in various ways, including a rocker phase, and by putting himself in unnecessary danger because he isn’t human. The two reconcile, more or less, when Andrew reveals that Mack has been defying his programming for months, ever since he picked up the tracker. Later, Andrew gives up the crown and jewels in order to save Mack, despite his son’s protests that he’s not important. In the final battle Mack sacrifices himself, fighting an enemy that “no human can defeat.” The newly restored Sentinel Knight places the (also restored) crown on Mack’s head, reviving him despite the irreparable damage to his systems. And, as a bonus, Mack is turned into a human.
*Mackenzie "Mack" Hartford: Red Overdrive Ranger -- super strength; wants to be with his father more; wants to be an adventurer and vicariously lives out his dream by reading adventure novels; fiercely dedicated to the cause
*Veronica "Ronny" Robinson: Yellow Overdrive Ranger -- super speed; champion racecar driver (in Europe); fiercely competitive but also extremely caring; loves Halloween
*Will Aston: Black Overdrive Ranger -- super hearing and sight; tests museums' security systems and recovers stolen items; ladies' man
*Rose Ortiz: Pink Overdrive Ranger -- invisibility; a genius; teaches at Cambridge University; the brains of the group and worries about her strength as a fighter
*Dax Lo: Blue Overdrive Ranger -- jumping powers; movie stuntman; dreams of acting; the jokester of the team
*Tyzonn: Mercury Overdrive Ranger -- his natural power is to turn into a mercury-like substance; dedicated to protecting people; loyal; goofy
*Andrew Hartford -- mentor to the rangers; loves his son; sort of like Indiana Jones
*Spencer Spencer -- the Hartfords’ butler; helped to build Mack; a master of disguise
*Vella -- Tyzonne’s long-lost love; compassionate
*Norg -- a witless yeti; Flurius stole his home for a base; unknowingly helps the rangers on several occasions; helps free Vella when she explains that Flurius is going to kill them both
*Miratrix -- works for Kamdor; space ninja; seduced Dax to get a jewel and was in turn seduced by Will to get another jewel; was trapped in a gemstone by Kamdor and presumably died with him
*Fearcats -- evil, cat-like creatures who terrorize space
*Flurius -- turned into an ice monster when he tried to steal the crown; intelligent; hates his brother
*Moltor -- turned into a lava monster when he tried to steal the crown; not so smart; hates his brother
At one point during OO, an ancient evil, Thrax, is released, and unites the rangers’ many warring enemies. Together they defeat the Overdrive Rangers. Sentinel Knight then seeks out former rangers to take their place. Eventually the Overdrive Rangers’ powers are restored and the “Retro Rangers” (as they’ve been dubbed in fandom) return to their normal lives.
*Adam Park: Black Mighty Morphin Ranger -- leader of the Retro Rangers; was also the Green Zeo Ranger and Green Turbo Ranger but prefers his original powers; owns a dojo

*Bridge Carson: Red SPD Ranger -- from the future; a member of Space Patrol Delta, an intergalactic peacekeeping force; was Green SPD Ranger but was promoted when the original Red retired and the original Blue was promoted to head of SPD Earth; goofy; has telepathic powers; loves buttered toast
*Tori Hanson: Blue Wind Ranger -- a teacher at the Wind Ninja Academy and master of her element (water); loves surfing; makes surfboards; the “reliable one” on her team
*Kira Ford: Yellow Dino Ranger -- became a ranger through Tommy Oliver (yes, that Tommy Oliver), who was her high school science teacher at the time; sings; plays guitar; her genetic mutation is the petra scream (like Black Canary)
*Thrax -- son of Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd (enemies of the original rangers); no one is entirely sure where he came from, given that both of his parents turned good nine seasons before his appearance and he’s apparently been imprisoned for thousands of years when his parents met and were married in the ’90s
