I'm Going Back to UCLA
by Kirk Cameron
I was recently on the UCLA campus, sharing the gospel with students during their lunch break. UCLA is home to some of the most talented and intelligent young people in our country. As we struck up conversations about morality and faith, I quickly realized that for the most part, our young generation of students, soon to be the future business leaders, mothers and fathers, and politicians of our country are operating in a spiritually dead zone. Their minds have been horribly tweaked by the atheist's fairy tale of evolution and post-modern secular brainwashing. It so reminded me of when I was in school, learning about "science", the history of the universe, geology, astronomy, etc. These kids sounded so intelligent, so self-assured, and so knowledgeable, while at the same time reveling in their idolatry, fornication, deceit, theft, and blasphemy without the slightest concern of eternal consequences. They mocked and laughed at God, His Word, and His warnings. They scoffed at the message of the cross and rejected the love of the Savior who bled to save them.
At one point, when discussing the existence of God, one girl told me that she was very afraid of death. She also told me she doesn't believe in God because science has "proven" that the universe might have been formed without a Creator. She wouldn't budge. The sad thing was that she looked as though she had tears of her heart rebelling against the pride of her intellect, fighting to push their way out her eyes as she insisted that there was no God, no afterlife, and no meaning to her existence. It was as though she didn't want her statements to be true, but was convinced by her professors that her life was nothing more than a cosmic accident and had no meaning beyond the here and now. As we spoke about her sin, the penalty of Hell, and the hope of eternal life through faith in Christ, she just couldn't bring herself to open up. She was polite and charming, but stubborn and self-righteous at the same time. My heart broke for her as she walked off to her next class, attempting to live out the remainder of her days trying to find peace and pleasure before the hand of death steals it all from her.
Another young man I spoke with smirked and laughed at the notion of sin and Judgment Day. He acted as though our conversation was an insult to his intellect. He mocked and scoffed at every turn. He admitted he was liar, a thief, and an adulterer (by the Bible's standards), but said he didn't care. As I pressed God's moral requirements upon his conscience, he finally snapped. He spit out the words, "Then why did God kill my Grandmother?!" and "Why does God allow evil?!" We had a great discussion about every man's appointed time to die because of sin and God's patience and kindness leading him toward repentance. But in the end, he laughed again, turned and wandered into a crowd of "super-students" at UCLA, "...ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." (2 Timothy 3:7)
I left the campus discouraged and heart-broken, wondering if my evangelistic efforts had any eternal effect on these students. Only God knows, but one thing I have learned: Many of the young people in our world are on their way to Hell and won't believe it until they get there. I can imagine some of them even trying to "scientifically" disprove God as they stand before Him in Judgment, still justifying themselves, while all the witnesses in Heaven, Almighty God, and their own conscience unanimously convict them"Guilty as Charged". Perhaps then they will realize that although they "reasoned" themselves into the world's finest learning institutions, they failed the most important test of eternity. God promises to humble the proud and exalt the humble. Knowledge puffs up and blinds the eyes of the proud. While many of the finest learners have listened well to the teachings of their professors, they have neglected to heed the Word of their Creator, bringing eternal destruction to their own souls.
I'm going back to UCLA next week to talk with some more students. This time, I'm going to speak with much more conviction and urgency. I'm not going to get tied up in intellectual arguments. I won't get discouraged. I'm going to "do the work of an evangelist" and "seek and save the lost".
"For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:3-4)
I'm going to address their greatest need of eternity. I'll appeal to whatever good sense remains in them, use the tools God has given me, and fervently pray for them. These students have their high GPA and SAT scores, but I have the answer to death and the roadmap to Heaven. Please pray for me as I go armed with compassion, hoping to turn some from their sin to the Savior. I will pray for you as you go into your world and do the same.

okay, seriously, seriously. Seriously. A+ to the Bruins in this one.
Oh Kirk Cameron, when did you get so lonely that you had to go so crazy? I mean, you make Tom Cruise look sane.
I honestly will pray for you man. I pray you quit harassing UCLA students, get off the TBN network, stop making straight to video Christian shlock, and go back to making decent television again.
