It's weird because I figured the whole commencement ceremony would be filled with tears and stuff...but it wasn't...it was the exact opposite. It was full of smiles, laughs, and hugs.
Even the speaker, Mr. Bolhuis, had some fun with that dang microphone that wouldn't stay where he put it...lol he had to start his sentence over like 3 times. haha but his speech was really good...it was a sort of "thirst for knowledge" message. He talked about how when we were in Yellowstone on a hike and we saw all this stuff like a herd of elk in a meadow. When the wolves were about to attack, the cows (females) ran the opposite way of the bulls (males) and then turned around as the calves (babies) rose up out of the tall grass...it was a ploy to destract the wolves from their young.
He also talked about the red clay and how wolves left tracks there not long before we showed up at the scene. He explained how by looking at the different tracks we could tell what happened.
Then he talked about the sulfur and hot springs and mudpots and the geology of each.
His main point for the speech was that without the knowledge of the surroundings, that hike would have just been an enjoyable experience...but because of what we knew about what we were seeing, it made a lasting impression on us because it meant so much more. This relates to life because knowledge is important. The more knowledge we have about things, the more we will be able to appreciate them, and the more enriched our lives will be. So his challenge to us was to go out and learn as much as we can...about as much as we can...because he, the rest of the faculty, our family, and our friends want our lives to be as enjoyable as possible.
So after the ceremony was done...and after hundreds of pictures, smiles, and hugs...we were headed to the senior all-night party. It ended up being some place in Rockford called Champion health club...it was a cool place. We were dooped into thinking that it was at either Craig's Cruisers or GVSU...shows how much we know.
But yeah there was a ton of stuff to do there...
-Bungee Run...you get a velcro beenbag and run out as far as you can and put in on the velcro line before the bungee whips you back and gives you a whiplash lol...AWESOME.
-Bouncy Boxing...like regular boxing but in one of those inflatable trampoline things and boxing gloves the size of a 32-inch TV...also AWESOME.
-Obstacle Course...it had a 20 foot wall that you could do a flip off the top of...COOL.
-Velcro Wall...jump off a trampoline with a velcro suit on and you stick to the wall. You could do flips and stuff and stick upside down...COOL but you got hardcore wedgies.
-Basketball...self-explanatory.
-Pool..."splash for cash"...I got $1.65...also pool volleyball and a big hot tub...very very REFRESHING.
-Laser Tag...it was fun but you couldnt go on the other teams side. We annhialated the other team by like 50...FUN.
-Racquet Ball...Austin nailed himself in the head with his racquet and James got pegged with the ball twice...ENTERTAINING.
-Food...tons of pizza and Subway...DELICIOUS.
-Maui Wowie...delicious smoothies...YUM.
-Make-your-own-Music-Video...some of them were hilarious. I wanted to do one but no one wanted to do it with me...disappointing...but HILARIOUS.
-Raffle...I won a picture frame. Brock won a Michigan pennant...he crumpled it up and stomped on it lol...NEAT.
And that was the all-nighter...we got home at 5:30 and we were totally exhausted. At least I was. Went right to bed and got up at 2. It was nice to sleep...especially when Jae came over and woke me up :).
All-in-all i'm glad to be graduated...because I feel like there is a big monkey lifted off my back...i'm proud of myself...and with good reason. I got my diplomas and looked at them for awhile. Cool stuff.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2004!!!!!!!
