Of course I'll never know if that vote was actually counted since we're using the damn touch screen machines. All in all, I wasn't real happy about the voting procedures overall.
1) My voting location was changed fairly recently, although to be fair the county did send me a card with the new location on it. Given how fast the county is growing I should probably give them the benefit of the doubt that the change was to get the numbers of people voting at each location down to a manageable number.
2) We're one of the states with the ID requirement, the one folks in the Justice Department decided was designed to hold down minority voting, but which got approved anyway. It didn't affect me since I've got a driver's license, but it bugged me on principle.
3) Then there are the damn touch screens. I actually get the appeal of them. When they work properly they're very easy to use and make totaling things very quick. The problem is they aren't even remotely robust and when things go wrong, they're a mess.
Anyway, I did vote and after my preferred candidate dropped out last week I went ahead and voted for Obama. Of the remaining serious Dem candidates his positions seem to match my views a little bit better. I'm not jumping on the bandwagon to the same extent that others are. I think he could be a very good president, but I feel like too many people are turning him into a bit of a funhouse mirror; whenever they look at him they see what they want to see, not what's actually there. Now I suppose it could be argued that's a good thing if it inspires people to get up and do things, but to me it seems like it's just people setting themselves up for disappointment.
Now that my contrariness for the day is out the way, I'm off to write an exam. :)
