Potter Record and Review
Hello all. I would like to start off by saying that this LJ post will not contain any specific spoiliers. However, there will be some generalised rantings and ravings about the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. So now that you know this information and are warned, those of you who have not read the book should continue, only at your own risk. Those of you who HAVE read the book, read on and then we'll talk :-D.
Also, this book has set a new record for me. I picked it up from the post office at 830 yesterday morning, read it for an hour at work b4 lunch, read from 130 till about 430, broke for group meeting and going home, read from about 630 till finishing at 1130. Looking back on reading it, I realised that I read it in about 9 hours (not straight thru though...). This is the fastest I've ever read an HP book.
Ok, so lets see here. After reading this book, I must say that it is a fitting end to the Harry Potter series. There were some twists and turns, but overall, it was well laid out. I must say though, that there is way more character development in this book than in the entire series. I can truly understand why most of the characters did what they have done over the years. Harry does a lot more introspection and doesn't always see what we think he would see. No surprises there though. Overall, this was a generally great book, engrossing to the point that I actually had to set an alarm to remind me to eat supper. Mind you it scared the living shite out of me when it went off because I was truly "in" Harry's world. That's how good the writing of this novel is.
I only have two rants. I know that it was expected, but there is a heck of a lot of bloodshed in this book. If it were a war movie, well, yeah. I don't know what that's supposed to mean, but yeah, the book reads like a war movie intertwined with slight mysteries.
Rant#2 WHAT IS IT WITH PEOPLE KISSING IN THE MIDDLE OF BATTLE!?!?! First it was Will and Elizabeth in PotC 3 and now it's two characters in HP and the DH! Gah. Kiss later FIGHT NOW!
One serious rave about the book (warning, actual characters' names used here): Mrs. Weasley calling Bellatrix LeStrange a bitch for attacking a certain member of her family. WOOT!
