The Rahman Concert: In the Flush

So ya
Thought ya
Might like to
go to the show
To feel the warm thrill of confusion
That space cadet glow
Tell me is something eluding you sunshine?
Is this not what you expected to see? .....

Well. Even the rain seems to be a big fan of Rahman. Has it ever rained this crazy since it judiciously spoiled the show of some well known clown-who-thinks-he-remembers-how-to-act at Chinnaswamy stadium a few months back ?

Luckily I had carried my umbrella but even that didnt help much considering the gusto and the multitude of directions in which the rain decided to arrive at the venue. The show was supposed to start at 7pm. Even at 8pm, people had no clue regarding the show's status. No announcements were being made. Hah! how could someone even operate an amp (forget the PA) after such a rain. Even the electrons would have been drenched to the core

However the PA was still working, and some guy announced that Rahman was still interested to go ahead with the show...and then struck another bout of terrible rain!

.......And we're going to find out where you fans
Really stand

Finally, when we had given up all hope, the rain slowed down a bit at around 8:20pm, and Rahman came on stage and announced that the show will go on. They needed around 40mins to check the equipment etc, but the show would go on!

and the show did start at 9:05pm. And Oh Boy! it was a show. forget the muddy ground, forget everything else. But the sound, the lights, the music. These three elements were surely there. The stage was looking like a warzone, with the rear projection screen in a precarious position. But the music was as good as any dry show could have been.

They allowed people at the back to go infront (it was a god sent gift for poor souls like us :) The show went on nonstop...till 12am. Well for Rahman, I guess the rules are a bit relaxed (but again, I think he has earned the respect of the country to deserve that). I was amazed to see how energetic people were even after being drenched thrice. And there surely was a big crowd, many of whom had returned back home, changed and come back in time for the show.

Overall, the fact that they didnt cancel the show might have been a big money racket, considering that rescheduling would have involved huge losses perhaps. But I still feel it was Rahman's decision to go ahead with it because his fans were still with him. And I would not doubt that.

Even after that kind of rain, sound was crisp. Shiva Mani delivered a spine chilling drum solo. All the instrumentalists were brilliant. A couple of female playback singers screwed up here and there. But all in all, the show was something one wouldnt forget for quite some time. For various reasons
