superb shopping experience

It's rare that I get excited about things at the grocery store, but I'm officially excited now.
The store where we normally shop now has a scan-as-you-go system. I used it for the first time last night. The scanner is a snap to use. I was able to change my mind and "return" items without a hassle. It has a little annoying advertisement thing that comes up to convince you to buy various things that are on sale, but that's life.
I bring my own bags, so I just bagged my stuff as I went along. That means I was able to get my bags organized EXACTLY THE WAY I LIKE THEM. When I was done, I went up to the self-checkout, scanned the "end of order" barcode, paid, took my receipt, and I was on my way.
I frequently use the self-checkout anyway because the lines are always much shorter, but when I have a bunch of stuff and there isn't a bagger, my stuff gets piled up at the end of the belt before I finish. This eliminates that whole process.
I haven't tried buying produce yet, so that may be a pain, but it looks like they have things well set up for that.
The only problem I had last night was misjudging the weight of my bags and kind of overfilling one of them. Since I didn't need to lift the bags until I got to my car, there was no way to really tell.

Yay for technology!
