pairing: Seunghyun/JaeJin; JaeJin/Hongki; Seunghyun/Jonghun (hinted)
summary: Hongki walks in on Seunghyun and JaeJin fooling around.
notes: i was too lazy to think up a title.

To say that Hongki is surprised by what he sees when walking into JaeJin’s room is an understatement.

Seunghyun is hovering over JaeJin, shirt off to some unknown part of the room, sheet draped over his back, arms braced on either side of his head. Their kissing is messy and loud. It makes Hongki sick. He makes a disgusted sound, scrunching up his face just as the two turn to look at him, and walks right back out.

JaeJin pushes at Seunghyun’s shoulders, telling him to move; to get off him. Seunghyun just rolls his eyes. “Whatever,” he says, trying to lean back into kiss JaeJin again. “C’mon, it’s fine.”

“No it’s not,” JaeJin says, pushing particularly hard at Seunghyun’s shoulders. “Get out.”

Seunghyun sits at the foot of the bed for a moment, watching JaeJin’s face. He scowls at the other snatching his clothes up off the floor and stands. “Fine, be boring then.” He slams JaeJin’s door on his way out. Jonghun will keep him company.

“I’ve had better!” JaeJin hears Seunghyun yell from the hallway.

When Minhwan opens JaeJin’s door later, he’s laying exactly how Seunghyun left him. “I told you it was a bad idea.” And that’s when JaeJin actually starts to cry because, dammit, it was a bad idea and he was so, so, stupid. Minhwan sits on the edge of the bed watching as JaeJin breaks down. “Even I know better than to fool around with Seunghyun.”

*

For two weeks, Hongki avoids JaeJin, refusing to talk to him; to look at him; be in the same room as him if possible. He gets a lot of “not now,” or “I’m busy,” brushing past JaeJin to do something else. It’s starting to wear JaeJin down, make him feel even worse than he already does. If that’s even possible.

“Can you just talk to me?!” JaeJin snaps one day when Hongki starts to walk away, saying he’s got more important things to do. JaeJin’s eyes are red and his breath is ragged. “Or just listen to me!”

Hongki stops to take a deep breath. He wants to talk to JaeJin, but doesn’t all the same. He fucked Seunghyun. Seung-mother-fucking-hyun. And that is not okay.

He doesn’t get to say much for he knows already what JaeJin is going to say and Hongki finds himself glaring at JaeJin. “You fucked him, JaeJin. You fucked him. Not me, so don’t you dare get mad at me.” He begins to walk away, but JaeJin tries to follow, saying “but Hongki”.

Hongki turns around giving him a pained look. “Please. I need space.”

If winning Hongki over in the beginning was difficult, Jaejin isn’t really sure what this is. It took months to get where they were. Hongki being a hard nut to crack despite all the shameless flirting he did with JaeJin in public. Hongki is so many levels of complicated human that JaeJin doesn't even know where to begin to say sorry. He just had to go and be so stupid, ruining all of his own hard work because Seunghyun had said the right things at the right (or wrong) time.

Some days he thinks he has a chance. Hongki will stop and actually listen to what he has to say for a couple minutes. And JaeJin thinks things will be okay. But then Seunghyun shows up, with his smirk and “Hey, JaeJin,” and Hongki’s expression will turn even colder than it was before.

“Really?” He looks between the two of them before scoffing and walking away. Conversation over.

JaeJin shoves Seunghyun away from him and against the wall. “What the fuck is wrong with you?” JaeJin asks, Seunghyun’s shirt fisted in his hands. “Why do you ruin everything?”

Seunghyun just rolls his eyes. “I didn’t do anything but say hello.”

“And that is exactly it,” he shouts, hands tightening around Seunghyun’s shirt.

“You’re getting worked up over nothing.”

It surprises everyone when JaeJin’s fist connects with Seunghyun’s jaw, but it probably surprises Minhwan the most who walks in just as it happens, jumping to pull JaeJin back because anything more than just a punch to the face could become a problem.

“Jonghun-hyung!” Minhwan may be able to hold JaeJin back, but now Seunghyun’s mad and who knows if this will spiral into something worse.

“I’m so done with your shit, Seunghyun!” JaeJin yells, trying to break free from Minhwan’s hold. Kid is strong from playing the drums so many years which makes it a bit difficult for JaeJin. When Jonghun comes in asking what happened and hands on Seunghyun checking the dark red mark on his face that’s starting to turn purple JaeJin says with a scowl, “You need to learn to control your slut.” He says it with such a cold tone that makes Minhwan’s grip on him slack just a bit.

“Hyung...” Minhwan says.

“If I’m such a slut,” Seunghyun says after a roll of his eyes. “What does that make you?”

This starts JaeJin all over again, trying to break from Minhwan’s hold and get past Jonghun who is now standing before Seunghyun with a hard look.

“I’m not the one that’s in a committed relationship.” Seunghyun says with an air of superiority. “Pot, meet kettle.”

JaeJin glowers at him. “But I am,” JaeJin starts. “Or was. No thanks to you.”

Seunghyun finds this amusing, leaning on Jonghun’s shoulder a little with a smirk. “You came to me JaeJin. Not the other way around.”

JaeJin wants to argue that Seunghyun flirted with him first, but in the end it’s still his fault. JaeJin was weak and stupid and listened to every damn thing that brat said. In the end, he was the one that went to Seunghyun.

Forgetting something in the main part of the house, Hongki comes out of his room and finds this mess of JaeJin looking about ready to kill Seunghyun, being held back by Minhwan. He gives a sad look to his bandmates, because this is ridiculous.

Seunghyun catches Hongki’s gaze, sporting a nice purple mark on his face now. He is just as at fault as I am, the look says.

Hongki only shakes his head, gets what he came for and leaves the room again. He is not getting into the middle of that one. Or any of it. It’s bad enough as it is, making his head hurt and his heart heavy. Just a few hours out will be fine. So, Hongki leaves the dorms.

*

Seunghyun isn’t heartless. He’s not an asshole, or a douche bag. But he sure as hell feels like it, lying on his bed staring at the wall with a blank expression. He’s as close to a homewrecker as he can get right now and it feels terrible. He doesn’t say anything though. Doesn’t apologize and takes everything that is dished out to him.

They’ll forgive him one day, that’s what Jonghun says when Seunghyun just feels so terrible and can’t move from his bed. He just can’t admit he’s wrong. Jonghun knows, because Jonghun sees through the walls he built up. Knows the difference between the facade and Seunghyun’s actual feelings. But Jonghun is tired of arguing and telling him to, “Just tell them you’re sorry.”

So he listens as Seunghyun blubbers on about how he’s a terrible person. He runs his fingers through Seunghyun’s hair as the other clings to him because he can’t be left alone with his thoughts.

Minhwan just sighs when they’re in the same room together. He’s not mad at Seunghyun, but he’s not happy with him either. “You really hurt Hongki you know.”

They’re sitting on the couch together, the others all out doing whatever it is they’re doing. Seunghyun turns away from Minhwan, eyes cast down to the floor. It hurts to hear Minhwan say that. “He’ll be fine,” he chokes out. It was supposed to be confident, but he just can’t manage that with this one.

Minhwan stares at him for a long moment. He wants to help, he really does. But he can’t because Hongki needs him. And Seunghyun, he has Jonghun and Jonghun will undoubtedly take care of Seunghyun. Hongki can’t take care of himself. He’ll ignore the problem, act like it’s not important until it’s too late.

He pats Seunghyun on the shoulder. “I hope it works out. For your sake more than anyones.”

*

Hongki is about as stubborn as an ox, refusing to show how broken up he is about everything. Minhwan knows that he’s torn up about it even though he refuses to talk to Seunghyun and JaeJin unless he has too. Minhwan hears him at night, all emotions and tears. Hongki has always been the most emotional one. The temporary room switch making it so Hongki’s not alone and no one gets killed in their sleep.

Minhwan is only a little worried one night when he hears Hongki come home trashed, bumping into things and talking in hushed (failed) tones to Jonghun.

*

“What are you doing?” Jonghun asks in a rushed tone. Hongki has him trapped between the wall and himself, hands everywhere on Jonghun’s body that he can reach.

“What does it look like?” Hongki slurs.

Jonghun puts his hands on Hongki’s shoulders, holding him arms length away. “You can’t do this, you’re drunk,” he says roughly. “You’ll regret it later.”

Hongki glares, a frown clear on his face even in the mostly dark dorm. “Your slut fucked my boyfriend,” he says harshly. “So why can’t I fuck you?”

Jonghun looks pained. He doesn't know who to make things right with anyone anymore. “It’ll only make things worse.”

“But it’ll be even!” Hongki pleads. “It’s only fair.”

“But it isn’t, Hongki!” Jonghun’s voice makes Hongki jump, putting a small sliver of distance between them as Jonghun’s arms fall to his side. “Don’t you think everyone is hurt enough?”

A sob rips through Hongki’s chest, making him fall to his knees in a drunken teary mess, mumbling things to himself and just asking all around why is everything is so difficult.

In the morning, Seunghyun enters the kitchen/dining room carefully, eyes quickly glancing at Hongki who sits at the table nursing a hangover the size of China. “So, I heard you tried to get with Jonghun last night.” he says with a casual smirk.

It’s wonderful how fate works, having JaeJin walk in just as the words leave Seunghyun’s mouth. His eyes are wide as he looks down at Hongki’s weak posture then back up to Seunghyun’s gaze that is not turned on him. He doesn’t actually believe what he is hearing, because this is Seunghyun who has been fucking shit up for weeks now. It’s got to be a lie.

Seunghyun’s smirk grows. “Was it good?”

“Don’t,” JaeJin says, making his presence known to Hongki. “Seunghyun don’t you dare.”

Hongki shifts in the corner of JaeJin’s eye. He looks completely defeated.

Seunghyun seems to find this amusing and laughs out right, turning into the kitchen to get something to eat. JaeJin doesn’t believe this. He’s lying, this is just Seunghyun trying to have fun, trying to fuck with everyone because he’s a jerk.

“Don’t believe me then.” He shrugs. “I can’t help if he’s trying to get over his pain from you.”

His last word is cut off short when Jonghun walks in and grabs Seunghyun roughly by the arm. “What are you doing?” His eyes are dark and his tone deadly, making Seunghyun just a tad bit scared.

Seunghyun laughs anyway. “What?” But there’s a nervous feeling of dread in his stomach.

“You have a really big mouth, you know that?” Jonghun hisses. His grip on Seunghyun’s arm tightens to where it hurts.

“But I thought you liked that about me.” Seunghyun tries to be alluring.

JaeJin slams his glass down on the table next to Hongki, not sparing Seunghyun another looks he mumbles, “You’re such a slut.” He turns to head back to his room.

Seunghyun wrenches his arm out of Jonghun’s grip. It hurts a little, but he ignores it in favor of getting out of there as soon as possible. “I’m done with this.”

“Dammit, Seunghyun!” Jonghun yells, because he’s just tired of everyone getting on each other’s nerves. It’s not good for the group and not good for whatever is left of their friendship.

Seunghyun doesn’t listen and keeps walking until he’s out of the dorm and feels like the worst person on earth.

JaeJin’s door slams shut just as Minhwan comes out of the bathroom, hair wet and sticking to his face. “Did I miss something?” He asks when reaching the kitchen. Minhwan looks between Hongki and Jonghun and knows he missed a lot. “Really guys?”

Jonghun groans, rubbing two fingers by his temple and heads back to his own room.

“Maybe you should just talk to him,” Minhwan says, sitting across from Hongki who’s nursing his head even more after all the loud noise.

“There is nothing to talk about.” He winces at the sound of his own voice. “I have everything under control.”

Minhwan sighs, what feels like a constant migraine banging against his brain even worse today. He feels like he’s back in high school right now, and it’s ridiculous. “I know you don’t want to hear this,” Minhwan starts, “but you need to fix this before the performance. We can’t go on stage like this. The fans--”

Hongki cuts him off with a pat on the arm. “Don’t worry.” He gives a small smile. Minhwan’s right, Hongki knows this. He just doesn’t know how to get over it.

*

This wasn’t how it was supposed to happen. They were supposed to talk, figuring things out, but somehow they end up kissing. More than that even. JaeJin’s body feels so good, yet so different under Hongki’s fingertips. His wrists are thinner, fingers rougher. The calluses tickles Hongki’s skin more than they used to. JaeJin’s lean body feels a little weaker and all Hongki can do is pull him closer, wanting so much to say he’s sorry for overreacting but not being able to find his words.

In the morning, when Hongki wakes up JaeJin already blurts out an “I’m sorry.” He sounds about ready to cry and Hongki wants anything but that. He just wants to keep JaeJin close, but he’s already pulling back, looking for his shirt that’s on the floor next to his bed. Hongki watches as he slowly pulls it back on.

“Just forget it,” Hongki mumbles, wrapping his arm around JaeJin’s waist and pulling him back down. “Forget it all.”

The next couple of weeks are probably even worse because Hongki still refuses to talk to Seunghyun. JaeJin finds it funny, but he doesn’t laugh about it or say anything for fear of ruining Hongki’s mood.

As their goodbye stage comes and passes, leaving them will a little free time, Seunghyun seems like he’s up to something for a couple of days there before he shoves something into JaeJin’s face after having burst into his room while JaeJin was fooling around on the bass.

“You could knock,” he says dryly, but eyes Seunghyun’s hand. “What’s that?”

“Your death sentence.”

JaeJin glares. “I can punch you in the face again.”

Seunghyun drops it into his lap (it’s more like a throw while he steps back). “No thank you, my jaw still hurts.”

JaeJin smirks. “Are you sure it’s not from anything else? Having fun with Jonghun again?” He picks it up. It’s an envelope. “If it’s stupid I’m still punching you.” When he opens it he finds a fancy invite to one of those resorts in the mountains. He looks up at Seunghyun who’s trying to appear bored.

“Don’t get the wrong idea,” he says casually. “I’m just busy that day and have no one to take anyway so I figured you and Hongki would like to go.”

JaeJin grins. “Right. Of course. What else would it be?” He rolls his eyes.

“Exactly.” Seunghyun passes Hongki in the hallway, carefully avoiding him. “You’re boyfriend is really violent. You should keep him in line,” he says rightfully confusing Hongki and making him raise an eyebrow at JaeJin on the floor when he enters the room.

Shaking his head, JaeJin hands over the envelope with a stupid smile on his face. Slowly but surely everything will be okay and Minhwan no longer has to play the responsible baby.
