The Drinks
The Smoke
Our Corner
I thought I would taste her in the smoke
I breathed in as if the smoke was the last clean air in the world
I felt that by wanting to see her, smell her, taste her
Some ghost of her, would be there
But there was no magic, as I expected.
Just thoughts, longing, missing her.
It was there where I made the decision
The decision that was made for me.
She took a pull on the huka, and breathed out with force
Her arms wrapped around my arm
and her dark bottomless eyes looked up at me
when I stared back, What did she see in my eyes?
I was Lost
Lost in her beauty.
She broke her gaze,
buried her face into my shoulder blade
In that moment my life changed.
I had already been in love with her for a few days.
But THIS moment
This is the moment where I could no longer hide
My longing glances could no longer be explained away
I could no longer be happy to simply walk next to her
She peered out from behind my shoulder
Without knowing what was happening I noticed my face edge closer
I was able to stop myself for a split second
hovering, hovering, hovering
As if I had come to a realization that I had reached the point of no return
Not the point of no return in the movement
not a point of no return in our courtship
A point of no return in the course of my life
I was about to kiss the woman who would make my life complete.
I kissed her, softly, and she pulled me in,
she hasn't let me go since
I hope she never does.
