Friday night: Off to see the Scottish play at the Loring Playhouse. Ticket price was $20 per, so I was hoping for good quality work. I was disappointed. I left the theater feeling kind of robbed, since MacBeth and Hamlet sort of fight it off in my head as my favorite Shakespeare tragedy. I have read the play many times and seen it both on film and in production several times and have never felt this odd about it after the fact. I feel that the director made some odd choices in his editing and a few really poor choices in some scenes. I mean, he deleted the "pretty chickens" line - what is that? He left in all the scenes with the witches, not that I mind that, but he cut away a chunk of the beginning of Lady MacBeth's descent into madness, which I always felt was pretty important, since it shows how MacB and his lady trade power positions in the play. I was quite satisfied with our acting for MacBeth, Banquo, Malcom, MacDuff, the three witches and Ross. Everyone else was middling to bad. Anyway, go if you feel the need to support someone in the production, but otherwise, count your coins and decide if you feel it's worthwhile.
Saturday: had a very nice day. Worked at my mother-in-laws for a few hours on Saturday, picked up a few things at the store on the way home and then dashed off with my spouse to see The Aviator. Wow. This was good. Do see it on the big screen - it's worth your while. I loved the history, even if it is smushed for Hollywood's purposes. I also liked Cate Blanchett's performance of Katherine Hepburn. She got it down to the toes - accent, laugh, stride, attitude and there were moments when I was certain I was looking at Kate, despite the fact that Cate B. looks nothing like Ms Hepburn. Leonardo was on again, finally, and back to where I first saw him with his strengths from Gilbert Grape and Basketball Diaries. I am not a history buff, so I never knew that Howard Hughes was mentally ill (OCD, I suspect) and I wondered what he would have been like had he been able to find the right care and the right medication. Things that could have happened. After the film we went for dinner at the India Palace in Roseville and then home for a wonderful evening of cuddling and keeping the cold away.
Sunday: Woke up late, muddled about something for b-fast, did some household things. Went out for a small b-day gathering for my friend C.H. and then off to N.P.'s house-warming party. Lucky gal - she didn't have to work today on account of the holiday. But both the b-day party and the house-warming were quite pleasant and we had a good time. I was ready to come home and sleep by the time we got around to it.
Anyway, speaking of sleep - I suppose I ought to be a responsible lady and get some before my next working day. Hope everyone is staying warm and doesn't have freezing noses or toes. Huh - I seem to keep having this issue w/ the kittens - I need to see the computer screen and they come up to it and want to play with the moving things on the screen and then i have to pick them up and move them. do you think it will sink into their little heads someday? Otherwise, the kittens are quite lovely and the kitten that sleeps on my feet at night is very appreciated. (grin)
Ta'!
