So here I am, game canceled, with a giant pizza and beer and nobody here. At least I'm not starving or dying of cancer or something like that. So go me!
I had students today discussing their papers *with each other*, and reminded myself of the mystic passage of
Mallory wherein the
Grail first appears. "Now, said he, servants of
Jesu Christ, ye shall be fed afore this table with sweet meats that never knights tasted."
I stared at them as they spoke, not pitching to the Teacher as Jamie likes to put it, but talking amongst themselves, and tried to keep the image in my eye-mind.
This is the goal, the high holiness which we seek: to bring students into the
Great Conversation which comprises the
intellectual life of
world civilization.
Then looked they and saw a
man come out of the
Holy Vessel, that had all the
signs of the passion of
Jesu
Christ, bleeding all openly, and said: My knights, and
my servants, and my true children, which be come out of
deadly life into
spiritual life, I will now no longer hide me
from you, but ye shall see now a part of
my secrets and of
my hidden things: now hold and receive the
high meat which
ye have so much desired.
