on april 27th there was a bonfire at the beach with the overseas department. it was very nice out and everyone was having such a good time. we even made pita. a lot of people got really drunk though. which is what usually happens at bonfires (or all overseas night events) so it was annoying but still fun.
aprill 28-29 was shabbat b'yachad. we went to kibbutz tzuba and met up with EIE and ALL of Netzer and some YJ kids. we went strawberry picking, did a few sessions and then just hung out. it was so nice to see the netzer kids again cause there are new ones from south africa and australia and it was nice to meet them and good to see them since we are all going to part soon. also i got to see rachel wolfman, justin samuels, bryan bierman and a few other nftyne-ers. it was really nice. and all of carmel, netzer and yj slept in one house and it was just nice to be together. unfortunatly we havent seen eie again cause its hard to get them to us and we dont have enough time to go there but if any of you are reading this, i miss you!
april 1+2, yom hazikeron, which is a rememberance day. again the whole country stopped for 2 minutes to just remember. it was very nice. it made me really think about the army in israel. but thats a journal entry for another day. we went to leobaeck for a ceremony which was very moving. they would not have done it like that in the states but it was still so beautiful
april 2nd @ night, yom haatzmaut. INDEPENDENCE DAY! it was very fun and everyone was very excited. first we had a party at the university in peters apartment with some first semester people and then Yama, Nadav and I went out to Maiddlers for a drink and food. and then we went to the park and made s'mores with a lighter, bad idea but SO good at the time. then nadav came back and we watched a movie and hung out till 530.
april 3-liz, carrie, jenn, henrietta and I went to the beach to hang out for yom haatzmaut. there were so many families there bbqing and it was very nice. we all got tan and got to go in the water which is very warm now. we also found out that there is only ONE falafel stand on the ENTIRE stretch of beach.
April 4-6- mari and i went on a romantic weekend getaway to Ein Hod. it is an artist village right outside of haifa. we had emailed all these B+B owners and one emailed us back and gave us a deal. so we had a nice little cottage to ourselves with a cable tv, livingroom, bedroom (with queen size bed) a kitchen and a bathroom (with a massage shower). we went into every thing that said OPEN and saw such beautiful art. i cant wait to take my sister there sometime. i also met my cousin for the first time. he is around 83 i think and has living in ein hod since the beginning. he lives in a BEAUTIFUL house. he plays the oboe and played at the ceremony when Israel was declared an independent state. it was very nice, we had wine with dinner and it was lovely. also we ate at a REALLY good arab restaurant with FRESH humus and labana. sooo good. there are a lot of pictures.
May 7- i had a phone conference with next years carmel. they all seem cool and i think they are going to really enjoy being here. they all were very excited.
May 8- carmel has a video conference with Kesher. it was very silly and dumb. the reception was bad and they told us stuff we already knew but oh well.
may 9th-i went on a fake date with my friend peter from germany who had never gone on a date before. we got dressed up (which is a big deal cause we never get dressed up) and we went to a nice cafe called manderin and had a lovely dinner with glasses of wine. HE actually PAID for dinner. afterwards we walked around the park and i went on a slide and he was like will my little princess come to join me. it was adorable. then we went to Rojos and got a cocktail which i wouldnt let him pay for. and it was very nice cause i learned a lot about him and there was no stress AND he borrowed our friend orens car so we got to drive. it was all in all a good night.
May 11-carmel went out to dinner at a VERY yummy sushi restaurante called Tatami. it was a reunion dinner since charley was back in the country although two people decided not to come
may 12-14- the trip i wrote about in the previous entry
may 15- we went to a VERY cool event for Lag B'omer. over 5000 teenagers that were on year courses and other MASA programs came to this one place in Latrun. The prime minister of israel spoke as well as the minister of immigrant absorption and some people from masa. there were also two DJS that performed with a group anddd my favorite israeli band GAYA performed. it was VERY cool and it was so nice because again we got to hang out with netzer. we also had a bonfire afterwards with hebrew U.
may 16- jenn and i went to Tel Aviv/Yafo to visit Nadav and see these amazing fireworks. The french have been doing a lot of things for israel lately and they brought over the guy that usually does the fireworks for the olympics and he gave a 20 minute show. it was SO beautiful and cool. israelis dont understand though that you can sit for fireworks because they are in the sky but whatever. it was cool because the fireworks were placed in the perfect positions. afterwards we got icecream and hung out at the israeli mechina apartment and then nadavs dad drove us back to haifa
may 18-jenn and i went to the mall and accomplished a lot of things.(including new earrings) then it was danielles bday party and a bunch of people went to the state park and we had a bonfire with pizza and drinks and just hung out. it was nice because people that dont usually hang out with other people were hanging out. everyone was mixed.
may 19- we went to the Israeli Movement for Progressive Judaism Conference. it was very cool to see so many reform/progressive jews in one place. we met with michael levny to talk about how we need to do something so that the URJ takes care of us in the years to come and then we went to one other session about relabeling the movement. afterwards there were very nice shabbat services and a very nice dinner. then there was a concert for the youth. it was nice and nadav/israeli mechina was there as well as noar tellem (netzer israel).
also every wednesday mari, dina, henriette, yako, shmu, jake, carrie and i have been having a potluck. its nice because we just get to rewind and hang out and we also get to eat yummy, yummy food.
