I didn't want to talk about what was going on in Florida but I guess I can't keep my silence any longer. I won't go into specific details but I have to say the more I see of this case and the more I delve in to this "Stand your ground" law I am reaching a conclusion that involves Zimmerman walking away from this whether he is guilty or not.
I know that there is a racial element to this case whether people want to admit it or not. But that is not the major issue at less not regarding the possible state case. Of course if this ends up being a federal case this will change, in fact that's the only way it can become a federal case.... hate crime and all (violation of civil rights). They are going to have a hard time making this into a federal case let me tell you, 911 calls or not. The fact that he mentioned Martin's race does not meet the burden of proof that this was a hate crime.
If what the media is reporting is even half true obstruction of justice charges should be filed against certain people of the Sanford Police department but I have a feeling that's not going to happen.
Zimmerman has already won his case before it starts because to many things where mishandled by the police department. Documentation was not made of his injuries so its his word and the possible compromise word of the officer on the scene against.... no one. Supposedly the murder weapon was not confiscated ....... chain of custody gone. No field sobriety test....And if they didn't do these major things who knows how many minor pieces are missing from this investigation.
This whole case sickens me because I don't understand how another person can pursue someone else and then shoot that person because the situation gets dicey and not have any legal consequences. Because let's face it the moment that Zimmerman left his vehicle he became an instigator/aggressor.
I hope for the sake of the Martin family and possible the Zimmerman family that the media has gotten it wrong and that the Sanford Police did actually do their job and follow correct police procedure because if not I don't know what kind of society this is. I don't want to live in a society where those who are in a position of authority and power are this negligent (I don't care if it's intentional or due to incompetence).
My prayer and hope is that this situation does not escalate into violence. I don't want any riots because that's not going to help anyone. Peaceful protest are okay and stand strong but please no violence.
Zimmerman may get away with this but my hope is that a change will come of this. A law that allows someone to shoot anyone just because they feel a threat is not a law that needs to be on any books.
Not like this.
There is self defense and then there is an open invitation to commit murder.
